Adam Worth

I thought we’d done well to fill most of the glaring gaps in our squad (save right back).

I never shared the extreme enthusiasm for the actual players we’d signed that some did. In fact, I was criticised quite a few times for saying how ludicrous it was when people were talking about pissing the league because we signed a midfielder from Orient for a million quid.

I also made quite a point of criticising the decision to not sign O’Brien and gett8ng the spine right.

I didn’t expect us to be 21st, no. But I said throughout that I didn’t expect anything other than mid table.
We went for L'OB, he decided on Wrexham. Same for Mcburnie who opted for Hull

I think that the players signed in the window were mostly decent though three I wouldn't have touched with a barge-pole. Is it the management doing the square pegs thing which is making our window look much worse? Thank heaven's last season's escaped goat has banged a few in.

This kind of argument always makes me chuckle when it's made in relation to professional football.

No one holds a gun to anyone's head and forces them to be a player, coach, CEO, recruitment "expert" or whatever else at a football club that is always going to be in the public eye and come under scrutiny from lots of people. That's the price on the ticket. They go into it eyes wide open.

If they can't handle the criticism then they are in the wrong job and should go and do something else that isn't in the public eye.

Personally, I am sick of our football team being perennially shite yet some of it is being blamed on perceived fan negativity. The arrogance from these people is astounding.

All she really posts about is a defence of the recruitment this summer which leads me to believe she may not quite be the most even handed arbiter. This never has to become personal. It did not with Sheehan and I hope it does not with anyone else. Dimi or Worth is a unique example as he has a history on the forums but we can still just judge him on his work and try as best to separate it from his views on Raducanu or American politics. It is helpful and good for the club that his post history has gone so the focus can remain on the actual work being doing. Although he could probably help himself by not posting from new accounts🤦‍♂️

Whatever has happened in the recruitment department has clearly not worked and seems to remain a work in progress. The money spent on Widell to only go on loan for six months and to not be played and also look miles away from being the player we hoped and at an age that is not very young. Into all our dealings this summer that look increasingly confused and our big signings struggling to have any kind of impact. I am all for using data and it is necessary for our club to grow but if it has identified Widell, Stamenic, Yalcouye and Inoussa from abroad and we go and spend more on Walta you would hope they have looked into why it has gone so badly so far and what mistakes they made previously to make sure Walta is not more of the same.

I don’t believe it’s as yet sunk in with those that matter that we are genuinely in with a good chance of being relegated.

Same with some fans.

People keep saying ‘we’re too good’ or ‘players are top 6’ or whatever are not watching what is happening on the pitch.

Having said that, I personally believe that some are personalising this far more than is necessary simply because of history. It’s not particularly helpful.

The whole set up of the club needs to be looked at as it appears to me to be sub optimal.

We are performing badly on the pitch and badly off it.

The only people to blame for that are the owners who have appointed people to their current positions. Not the people themselves. As no one would turn down the opportunities they’ve been given. Whether in management, operations, recruitment, coaching.

We have a large number of fans who are completely over the top (probably every club is the same).
We sign young players from overseas or League 1 that no other club at our level wants and we’re going to ‘piss the league’.
We have a couple of celebrity ‘investors’ and we are talking about premier league level social media reach.
We have an interview with the CEO which focuses almost entirely on peripheral nonsense and everyone starts talking about his genius.
We appoint a manager with no experience and everyone assumes it’s Klopp.

And when reality bites, people start falling out left right and centre and blaming individuals.

It’s the ownership. They need to focus on what it is that we do, play football, and not what marketing opportunities we can bring in. Or appoint someone that will only think about the football and leave the rest to one side. We are running before we can walk. It’s the Wrexham effect to be honest. Being dazzled by the income streams that are out there and thinking ‘we can do that if only we bring in a random celebrity or five’.
Ive always said these owners and the last have shown they are equally incompetent just in 2 different ways.

Sports betting and recruitment have a lot of crossover. Its not unusual - Bloom brought that to Brighton.

Ethan Galbraith alone will earn the club a profit on their summer business.

The fans are lashing out at easy targets at the moment.

We are all concerned. I get it. We had the excitement of the end of last season. The new players getting signed early. Modric, Snoop . The positivity was everywhere.

Nobody is enjoying the situation we are in but we need to unify rather than looking at tearing down the club.
Yes if all the fans start happy clapping we will piss top 6 innit, dunno why the owners didn't think of it?
