Hilarious thread on Brentford's forum. Quite a few sensible posters but those really upset that after finishing 7 points above 4th, they have to go through this and may not get promoted are precious.

Wasn't it a Brentford Chairman from times gone past that thought up the idea of play-offs in the first place.

Edit thought so it was Martin Lange former Brentford Chairman

Not especially, but everyone knows the score. They're about creating a spectacle and generating revenue rather than fairness.

Us beating Hounslow FC in the final, there won't be anything fairer or funnier.

Have a read through the Brentford forum - I've never seen so many people on a football forum moaning about things not being fair and moaning about people 'cheating' etc...and that's saying something!

That being said, someone on there said that the semi's should be a 1-legged affair with the 3rd and 4th playing at home...I think that's not a bad shout actually.

They also make a lot of fuss about the justice league, according to that they would be 2nd.

Didn't realise the Brentford owner is the guy behind that crap statistic farce. We should have won because we missed more chances.

If they did that, it would be like the national league most likely, with 6 teams in the play-offs and the lower ranked four teams playing a quarter final.

Could go back to two up two down.
I thought part of the reason for play offs was to keep the season competitive to the last games.

Correct. The team finishing 3rd will always wish it was simply promotion for the top 3, while the teams in 4th-6th will be delighted that the playoffs exist.

Having said that, we finished 3rd in the 10/11 season and I don't remember us crying about having to go through the playoffs. But then the Hounslow lot are a bit 'special' in general.

The NFL system of a one off game with the higher ranked team at home has some merit, but would generate less money.

On the other hand, a match over two legs should, in theory, favour the stronger team (less chance of a one off fluke result)

We were able to outplay the reigning European champions over 2 legs in 2013 to reach Wembley.

Basically, as long as they dont change the rules mid season, its fair. Unlike the Irish in the Pro14.

To be fair to Bedwetford they've finished 3rd in the playoffs 7 times out of the 10 failures!

It's not worth crying about though. Everyone knows the rules before the season starts. They only turn up when it doesn't matter anyway - they only won the last few games of the season because nothing was riding on it. Conversely, Bournemouth turn it on when there is something riding on it. We will need to make sure we're on our game in the final

To be fair, that’s more presumptions than anything on their forum.
