Awful Day

Anyway Spectre's on now, probably the best of the James Bond Filum's :)

As Saturdays go, this one has been awful. In the afternoon, I did lop a few branches off a couple of trees to improve the view from the kitchen window but other than that, all I did of note, was drive to my daughter's house to feed their cat while they are all in Disneyland Paris for a few days. Glad there's a match on tomorrow.

The wife and I went to Malmesbury for the afternoon and had lunch in The Old Bell next to the Abbey, which is always a pleasant experience.

I'm chilling with some Roxy Music on my new fuck off speakers. Present to myself as missus had a new fireplace, so only fair. She's retreated upstairs so I get the speakers and the fireplace. Tidy.

What's her name?

Virginia Annoyed 😆
Virginia Plain by Roxy Music shirley .

First 33 rpm vinyl disc I ever bought out of my pocket money , Island Records released .

That track is embedded in my memory , a game changer to my listening habits .

Scratchy vinyl with a dodgy stylus was the way to listen to music .

What new speakers have you got, Mon?

Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3. Beasts. Chris Squires bass on Roundabout and his interplay with Bruford on Heart of the Sunrise is awesome.

I've always liked extravagant HiFi although it is a case study for the law of diminishing returns.

No, but I did love the look of the blue. Only white/grey would go with the room, so it was Hobson's choice. They were also a fair bit cheaper as the blue's are 'signature'. The differences were lost on my old ears anyway, so it was all aesthetics. There comes a point now where it's pointless going any further as my hearing is the limitation.

I can hear the difference with these from what I had though. Even Missus says she can hear the difference and she has carpet for eardrums. My other kit is a late 90's Amp and CD player, but it still does the business. I tried some modern kit but, for all the expense, it just seemed a bit flimsy in comparison, and the sound difference was just marginal at best to my ears, if even that. Unfortunately, the CD player is a bit temperamental and was skipping and jumping a bit recently. It seems to have cured itself, but these things rarely go away. So I may be forced to replace if I can't find s repairer.

I have a Rickenbacker bass like the one CS played. Unfortunately I cant play it quite as well as him.

He was a hero of mine. As a drummer, I always fancied being a bass player. Lead bass guitar on the Rickenbacker. I'm told Jack Bruce was similar and Geddy Lee followed his approach, but in my limited range of musical taste, I've never really heard the like.

Amazing stuff.
I wear 2 hearing aids these days so I'll never upgrade from my Maudant Shorts upstairs and my Missions downstairs. There's no point anymore. I've had both sets since the 80s/90s and they'll see me off.

Really nice kit, love them.

I used to have a decent system with floor speakers back in the day, then came the wire and kids and the old system was dispatched to the cupboard where it still remains. Kids have grown up, so my New Year’s resolution is to dig it out and play @@@@ with the wife.
