Barnsley 4 - 0 Swansea

Ok lets see how many games our u23 play in the first 11 then, also strange how every team we've played so far are futher along than we are. Edit not a single player who came on against Stevenage " impressed"
Two things
First the season for these teams lower down the pyramid start a week earlier than the Championship. They are therefore ALL a week ahead of us in the preparations - not strange or made up - a fact!
Second - we are not talking about how many of our uns=der 23 team play in the first XI. The measure will be how many of them are serviceable in our first team squad, and can be called upon when we run into a depth crisis.
Having a minimum of 4-5 0r even 7-8 in the 27 man squad would save us an absolute fortune.
Thinking a keeper, 2 Parkers, Wilson, Dabrowski, Iestyn Jones Lisssah, Cotterill, Congreve, Lloyd. etc etc
Are we absolutely sure that none of these can "do a job" if irequired to be ntegrated into the first team?
I think we often write them off too quickly

Very true. I live in Bremen. Talk about writing anyone off too soon I’ll give you Nick Woltemade. Werder youth product. Good to see Sheehan giving the youngsters a chance.

I always thought Congreve looked gash, a 'trier' who really doesn't have "it".

If you want gash I give you itay schecter, think Congreve offers more than that
Congreve seems to me to have quite a high ceiling, (see his goal v Newcastle in the cup last season) but at the same time a low floor (see his 2 deadfball deliveries on Wednesday).
He has an X factor and can create something - might be a throw of the dice when we are chasing a game maybe?

I will see your Wolternade and raise you a Daniel James. Could not get a game at Shrewsbury and 16 months later Man Utd were paying 25 million for him.

Congrieve and Cotterill need to go to L1 sides on loan unless Sheehan thinks both are now genuine first X1 squad players and offer something

1 whole week isnt going to make that much difference it wont turn any team from also rans to CL hopefuls.

Both of them had loan spells with regular first team experience last season.
One is 21 & the other will be very soon.
I'd say that if they're going to make it with the Swans then they need to be a contributing part of the first team squad this year

The difference is that players are flogged early in pre season to build conditioning (not match sharpness) which is why theirminutes are so carefully managed.
Even 1 week closer to the season the players are sharper amd more match fit.
Not also rans to champions league - but you will see a MUCH sharper Swans v L’Orient than the Swans vCheltenham or Exeter..
