4 loans is the max for me, aside from Rushworth I can't really say that the other 3 will be cemented first team players unless their loan term states otherwise......its up to the 3 to stake their claims as the season pushes on.

I do feel that we will see a few loans out with B Cooper and Conegrove....i still expect to see 1 or 2 leave permanently, my guessing with the recent loans being Wood and Grimes.
I could be wrong though.

Grimes nailed on to Saints IMO.

I just don't think they'll spend a big amount on Matty after spending money on Shea Charles and now looking to get Downes through the door. I've no doubt he was expecting the call though.

They won’t need to spend a big amount, but that depends on what we call big. They’d get him for £10m if you ask me.

Yeah i'd say that's big for a 28 year old in this league, granted they are making huge money on their sales though.

Loan signings are bread and butter for 75% of sides in the Championship, some come off some don't, that's Watson's job to get right...

Got to the playoff final, lost, and had to start from a weaker position the next season because Cooper had invested in 15 loan players over two seasons instead of building something within the club.

That’s such a myth.

From the playoff final, we had 3 loans in the lineup.

Hourihane, Woodman and Guehi.

From the season before play off attempt leg 2, we had 3:

Guehi, Gallagher and Brewster.

We have always used the loan market to supplement our sides, even back to Brendan Rodgers days where we loaned in 5, including Emnes, Borini, Priskin, Easter and Nouble.

In Russell’s first season we loaned in 5: Burns, Christie, Williams, Wolf and Laird.

People are under the impression that these players cost a lot of money. They are EPL youths who usually go for free to gain experience.

You're right, it was only 13 loan players over two seasons. I counted Guehi and Woodman twice.

And of course if they stay for 2 seasons then they aren’t really a loan in the true sense.

Many of our permanent players stay only 1 or 2 seasons, and we lose money on many of them, far more than if we had simply loaned someone.

Loans will always form part of our seasons IF we want to challenge for promotion.

If we don’t then I understand the point; but I’m afraid the likes of Leicester and Leeds will always be able to get the upper hand without it.

It can act as a leveller; so every Swans fan should be for the loan market, without it football largely (other than the rare exception) becomes a closed shop at this level, with the biggest spenders with the biggest squad value continuing to take the success.

You're not really comparing like with like with the Rodgers comparison, as only Borini was in the playoff final squad.

Cooper made 7 and 8 loans of varying lengths, Rodgers 6.

Every season is different, there is no ability to compare like for like.

My point is that loans have always formed a large part of our success. Pretending it hasn’t is just weird.

Cooper had limited to spend because we couldn’t offload Ayew, that meant in order to compete we had to bring in low cost loans.

What he managed to assemble on the budget he had available to him was remarkable.

Russell loaned 5 players when he arrived. If they were all picked wisely then they would all be in the starting line up.

An update, Humphreys is actually right footed.

The report I saw says he’s definitely left footed. Certainly needed a left sided CH so hopefully this one will be a good option.

As I said yesterday, I generally don’t like too many loans unless it’s for a specific hole and a permanent option would be too pricey, but of course, there is a possibility that we are loaning players because we don’t expect to sell Piroe and are concentrating on getting him into a contract that allows us to sell him in January or next summer instead, so we are biding time to spend too much before that happens.

Who knows.

Anyway, this one certainly does fill a very obvious hole that we have. Hopefully will be followed by a permanent back / wing back.

I still think, as NeathJack has also said, Grimes is going. If Piroe stays, we may be able to utilise him / Ginelly as more no. 10 type options which may mean we are about done even if Grimes goes.

I suspect Piroe would work well in that Dobbie type role.

He was certainly playing in more of a 10 role against Northampton, with Cullen playing closer to the opposition goal. He looked good there and of course scored 2 goals, although with the caveat of being against a lower league team who'd made lots of changes from their opening league game.

Seen a few reports that state he is a left sided defender but a few reporters stating he is right footed......God only knows but it appears we will soon find out.
I certainly feel that Piroe or Grimes wil be off, if not both.

He can be right foot dominant too but comfortable with both feet, certainly a LCB.

He’s pinged some lovely chipped passes with his left and some crackers with his right.

I don’t think Grimes is going anywhere.

Piroe 50:50 depending on what offers we get, but there certainly appears to be noises of a new contract which is promising.

I don’t think we need to sell either in terms of cash flow.
