It's great reading that you guys who have EVs seem to love them, its sort of change my perspective on ownership, especially after reading loads of negative stuff online, but I'm still not 100% convinced, that it would be right for me, I suppose its horses for courses, I'm in the market for a new motor but for now it's still gonna have to be ICE (petrol) for me.👍

I was in the same predicament as yourself before I made the switch until I spoke to one of the blokes in work who travels a fair bit and it was his positive words about owning an EV which made me take the plunge.

One of my colleagues has an early Nissan Leaf and he loves it, dont know many who have gone EV to be fair so apart from the positives on here, havent really had many real world conversation regarding ownership, if it works for you happy days.👍😁

My Mrs was the same we did the following click on that link below and it takes you to Swansea Self Drive centre in Baglan

Or you can download the Tesla app, go to buy a product and you can test drive a tesla Model 3 or model Y for 50 minutes, the cars are located in Baglan and you can try them anytime of the day. You will need to upload your driving licence to the app but that’s it.

You will get a text or message later asking if you are interested in purchasing a car.

My Mrs didn’t like the Tesla because of the screen but then test drove about 5 other EV’s before buying one of teh EV’s she tried.

The Tesla’s are a premium product and appear to go out of their way to be different but will give you an idea of what driving a EV is like.

If you have never been in one before it might be worth looking at any of the videos on YouTube about driving an EV as it can be very different to an ICE car. The Tesla especially has a v large screen and a lot of the controls are on there which can be daunting at first.

I would imagine the same goes for KIA or Hyundai two of the other makes i would recommend.

Big screen on the Tesla, yes. However the software and OS is so smooth. I’m yet to find another infotainment build which is as good, even with the premium German marques.

I have a Giv Energy inverter 5.2kw which has been good, my only regret is that i should have hard wired the internet rather than Wi FI , the connection drops fairly regularly which when you are home isn’t much of an issue when you are away then you are stuck with whatever you set up with previously. I should have also got a bigger battery to buy cheap overnight to carry more through even the darkest winter days.

There is an awful lot of push for Sigenergy systems all the installers raving on YouTube but i never know if this is sponsored stuff or genuine as it’s not easy to tell. However it does look a good neat set up albeit it is quite large.

As for Max regards payback, I don’t think about it i just see it as stabilising my bills so that i know i am not going to get pushed over the edge in retirement. I never think how much payback i had from my Worcester Bosch combi.

I pay £60 per month for gas central heating and all my electric inc dishwasher, tumble dryer, hob and double oven and charge the car. I use Octopus intelligent go tariff and pay 7p kw overnight to charge car and the house battery 9,5kw I can then export solar at 15p KW back to them.

I am currently £400 in credit having just had my monthly bill. I will eat into that over Nov to Feb and might go into debit but once March arrives the central heating goes down a bit and the solar starts putting in more than i use again.
Have a look at this. It might be of benefit to you.

You soon forget about the screen and it's blends in with the other aesthetics of the car 👍🏻

I turned down the option of one as a company car earlier this year. For no other reason than I can’t stand Musk, loved it after test driving it.

Now contemplating a Polestar or a Skoda Enyaq VRS. Probably leave it until the new year now though.

Thanks for the info Pacey.
I have driven an EV, it was a few years ago, and they were pretty grotty works vehicles. As I recall I was impressed with the power delivery, albeit they were van's, even so pretty rapid. I have sat in a Tesla when they first came out, they are spacious and the infotainment screen was quite impressive. I do like a nice switch or buttons mind, you feel a bit more involved and that's what I'd miss.😁👍

You're missing out, just need to look past the fact he's a fruit cake.

Jeff Bezos is another one, we'd be lost without our often daily Amazon delivery.

The Tesla charging infrastructure is far superior than any other in the country at the moment.
