Club Finances

Yeah, incoming transfer fees are recognised in the period they occur while purchases are spread over the life of the contract. It’s how Chelsea get round the rules with some exceptionally long contracts.

The headline £39m as was (slightly more now) allowed losses over 3 years has a few caveats. Some costs such as infrastructure, Academy and women’s section are excluded. Covid allowances plus a few other things too. Published accounts only really give us an indication.

As fans we’re always up to 18 months behind on this as the clubs accounts are published in arrears. However the EFL won’t be and the club has to keep up to date projections with them … were aiming for real time but no idea if they actually got round to doing that. But certainly relatively up to date.

I doubt we’re that close to the threshold as it goes, and Grimes going will help that in the short term (let’s not worry about the future …). Our problem has always been cash or lack of it .. this Swedish chap won’t help our ability to move this January I’d wager.
The Swedish guy is only costing a very small initial payment with a lot of it being sorted come the summer(July).
I suppose it's a way of avoiding things in the short term.

I read that there was going to be "an injection of twenty million" for incoming transfers in this month's Transfer Window. I presume that the intention behind those words was to make a reasoned and and planned commitment. Where is it now?

The 20 million was never set aside for incoming transfers, that amount is basically to keep the lights on for the next 12/18 months...

Doesn’t affect the P&L but would help with short term cashflow if that’s true, yeah. On the flip side, having to fill the role this season anyway is going to cost another lump.

One of these days we’ll have to stop kicking the can down the road mind.

Couldn't our amazing new owners just sponsor the kit/stadium/training ground, which would enable us to close some of the gap in the finances?

How much money are we actually making from the likes of Reviva, Westacres and Swansea Building Society? I get that the club wants to support local businesses but they could be (and probably are) doing themselves out of a better deal with a bigger company.

I know any sponsorship deals have to be at a realistic value (unless you're Man City) but I don't think anyone sponsors Fairwood at the moment?
There’s a lot they could do if they really were desperate to chuck more money it, rather than operate along broadly the same lines as their predecessors. Have heard some arguing that if it wasn’t for PSR they’d be chucking loads more in. I have my doubts TBH.

I'd love to see where our money is going, we pay low wages compared to other Championship clubs (apart from Grimes and Pedersen) but yet we're constantly losing multi millions of pounds year after year.

I can't see how our outgoings could be much lower so that must mean our income isn't being maximised?

Tickets sales are a relatively minor factor in club finances these days so the low attendances shouldn't make that much of an impact I don't think?

I’m not sure that low wages comment is true. I think we’re about lower-middle based on the comparison of the accounts across the league that the likes of Swiss Ramble do. May be lower this season given we’re down to the bare bones, who knows.

We’ve not helped ourselves with some infrastructure decisions, such as taking over the stadium and having two training sites (and own the wrong one).

I’ve wondered about that too. Same with Swansea University on the hoardings. Given the state of University finances I can’t imagine that they can afford that much. Unless admin get free access to VIP lounge. 😂

Probably absolutely nothing seeing as we lease the land at Fairwood off them for the training facility

I thought from the beginning buying out the stadium was insane. That Perlman was a moron…remember the shop…ffs.
