Cooper Out!

Thus far the jury remains firmly out on Cooper. He may be an adequate coach within a larger system but his career here so far suggests that when he himself is responsible for dictating events he is found wanting.

His vaunted "contacts" seem to consist entirely of tapping up players he's worked with before and he's shown little inclination or ability to improve players outside of that small group, to the point where we run the risk of losing one of the few genuinely creative talents in the squad because he's got no idea how to use him. His football is generally slow, cautious and tactically inflexible. The less said about his in-game management the better.

He's here for a while though so better get used to it and hope he improves.

Cooper's biggest fan at the club was without a doubt Birch. He always said that he was 100% behind him and never showed signs of waivering at any point in time.

Without him here, nobody knowing fully what impact the new CEO will have and who in reality is now making the decisions then his position is - IMO - not as secure as it would have been say two weeks ago...

Is replacing him a cost the club is willing to foot? More performances like yesterday and they'll have little choice, but even without Birch it's not a step you can see them wanting to take easily.

I’m with you on that Phil, if we are bottom 6/8 come Xmas - which on our performances yesterday & preseason is very possible - I can see another manager/coaching team change coming. Without at least one striker & experienced CB we look powder puff up top & vulnerable at the back (not a great combination).

Who knows but maybe with the fans voting with their feet and not attending games...

Yesterday was a concern. Not so much getting beat but the manner of the defeat, we remain dull to watch for most of the time and lack a total creative element.

The stupid part is we are equally likely to go to Preston next week and win and then all talk will be of the Premier League and how great Cooper is...

What would you expect from a professional CEO?
Among the biggest influences on CEOs are dwindling crowds (revenue) and fan reaction. That has been taken out of their hands so, hopefully, the true awfulness of Cooper on the team will be realised in our play. Yesterday's performance wasn't a shock, it's pretty much how we played most of last season just with more players (defence) out of position and a little slower. Newport (Abraham) did their jobs and deservedly won the game.

I'm not sure the relevance to the points I made especially the first line or two.

Embarrassing thread.

We were awful, but wanting our manager out after 1 cup loss.

Grow up.

Not one cup loss. Most of last season we saw the same thing,
Players out of position, no obvious formation, ineffective tactics, poor man management, little threat, dire football and blaming players.
The two good periods we had were at the start of the season when players still had Potter in their legs and after lockdown when players had had time away from the training ground.

I am not a fan of Cooper but to say he has to go after yesterday's game alone is just mind boggling. He in my mind is not the guy to take us forward but a new season, a year into the job, he has to be given a chance going into this season.

The squad is in a decent shape, a shape I thought would have been worse when thinking on it 6 months back. I think if he is given a chance to get a good centre half and a decent striker then he should be OK. Another worry is a creative midfielder to slot in at 10 could be his downfall, I don't see Gibbs White as the answer and I get the feeling of a gaping hole left, I had the same feeling the summer we signed Renato Sanches and Bony on his return.

I think an Aayala type and a young striker signed permanently with some potential could save him but as it stands, chance or not, I think he is walking a tight rope going in to the new season.

TBF we were saying it last season (some of us from the start). Had the players not had a few weeks respite from him before the end of the season we were looking at a bottom half finish.

Well you're making assumptions there and yes I'm not saying your interpretation of those two successful stints are incorrect, but the fact is Cooper was our manager for the whole season - season in which we reached the play offs. Therefore he certainly deserves to stay despite a terrible performance yesterday.

Not sure if the loan &changes in finances puts a new complexion on things, but he's not going anywhere yet in reality anyway.

I agree that questions were certainly asked last season but by some miracle he got us in the play offs! His tactics are strange, substitutions are frustrating and he certainly doesn't get his team to play the Swansea way! This year he has a season under his belt, its make or break but he has to be given a chance over just one game against Newport in the Cup.

Pre season has been limited and the window short from the end of the season to the start of this one, we have lost a number of players for yesterday's game....cut him some slack!

Well atleast until October anyhow 😁

You canst judge after one game, i thought he did ok last year should have made the play offs comfortably but strange decisions and PLAYERS not performing made it harder than it should have been. We know he can coach youngsters who can be notoriously difficult and considering we along with most others haven't got a pot to piss in i suggest we wait to see what happens?

I don't doubt that he has contacts as we have seen. But this season we have only one new loan addition and that was from Wolves. We have taken two of last season's batch back yet doesn't seem any other new additions loan wise on the horizon.

Surely with this God of developing youth players at the helm we should be fighting them off which a shitty stick. Unless Lampard looked at the difference in performance between Gallacher at Charlton and him here
