Covid Rules

To be added to the list of examples that make very little sense.

I get they are trying to control the spread, but this is crackers. The 140 in the pub is a much higher risk than the 50 outdoors, although I suspect they’d all end up in the pub after the game alongside the 30 players.

This Omnicron, despite being mild by the looks is ridiculously transmissible.

Boxing Day full pub down here come down with it, I didn’t turn up as it was my birthday and I knew there were lads down there who would be buying me specials etc so bottled it. Lucky escape

Omicron is rife and will get more so, I've got it along with my son and his girlfriend, my wife and another son are on their way to get tested now, my other son who lives in England tested positive on Boxing day, but as you say so far the symptoms are pretty mild, like a heavy cold and slight headache.

How do you know it’s the Omicron variant that you have?

The symptoms to Delta are completely different apparently, no loss of smell or taste, its more upper body (head, throat, nose) than Delta (lungs) and milder by all accounts, that might be the success of the vaccine though
Edit. Saying that I'm just assuming it's the Omicron variant as our symptoms fall into its category 👍

We were the same. My mrs had the same symptoms as you, cold symptoms, no loss of taste or smell and pretty mild. We assumed it was omicron, she did as if she’d find out which variant she had but they only test one in five positive samples for the variant.

Eldest daughter tested positive on lft on 27th,PCR results confirmed this morning

Three of us in the house with her - so far all returning negative - her symptoms are Omicron but like Mrs Clasey she hasnt been told whether it was or not

Is there a way of finding out the strain?

Not unless yours is one of the one in five they do the extra testing on.

When it first started appearing, they were contacting you a couple of days after the result to tell you. I don't think they are bothering now since they removed the specific isolation guidance for Omicron.

Out of interest how do you know you have omicron? I’ve had covid over Christmas, done all the tests, filled in the app, etc, etc, but at no point does it specifically mention omicron?

As an aside I only tested because I lost my sense of taste and smell and started to feel a bit iffy. My positive lat flow was followed by a next day positive PCR and from then on I tested negative everyday so I probably had it for best part of a week before knowing. I had tested six days before and that was negative so it must have fallen in between.

Hi mate, I've cut and pasted my reply to a previous post...

Also Lateral flow tests are most effective for detecting the virus before you show symptoms, when you become symptomatic they are a lot less reliable in detecting the virus.
