I knew about the deeper genetic analysis on a selection of positive test results, however I didn’t realise that folk were informed of the variant type.

Yes they were, but they have appeared to have stopped informing now.

My mrs was definitely told they only check one in five for the variant mind so even when people were being told it would all have been a bit hit and miss.

I know they weren't testing every sample for type of variant, no idea what ratio they were doing. But when the samples came back as Omicron, they were definitely contacting them, as I'm the company point of contact and had three cases of it to deal with. They were extremely frightened by it in the beginning, not so much now.

That’s positive news. My mrs was contacted to see if she wanted to be part of a clinical trial for some antiviral drugs or other. Turns out she wasn’t eligible as her symptoms had started to improve by then. It was the doctor who rung her about that who told her about the one in five.

Also Lateral flow tests are most effective for detecting the virus before you show symptoms, when you become symptomatic they are a lot less reliable in detecting the virus.

Are they? I'm pretty sure that I heard England were moving towards lat flow testing on days five and six following a positive PCR test as a release test?

I came down with symptoms a week today, failed LFT and PCR following day, on my 9th day of isolation now, been ok apart from first 2/3 days no loss of smell or taste, bad headache first 2 days and bit of a head cold, haven't had a sore throat though, still got a bit of a cough and the LFT I took earlier was negative, heading in the right direction.

Our daughter was told she had Omicron on Monday of last week and her sense of smell has completely gone.

Took him a lot of words to say “don’t know yet really”.

Catching Covid for a second time is becoming more prominent. I’ve heard of three instances today alone, Mikel Arteta being one of them following his first bout last March.
