How are the stocks of laverbread? I’m in between passports so this and the impending doom and gloom means that I’m probably grounded for the year.

At least the government have acted decisively on the topic of international flights. Not very nice though if you’ve just landed in Joburg or Cape Town only to be told that return flights home are cancelled and / or alternative routes home will warrant ten days in a hotel at a cost of £2k.

Yeah, the boffins are really concerned about this one. Loads of extra spike protein something or others which mean that it may be resistant to vaccines. It's already looking like it's more transmissible than Delta based on preliminary views, which is bad enough. What I'm not sure about (I don't know whether anyone is) is how deadly this version is. Could be a game changer if the worst fears become true, so let's hope they don't.
