And your is?

Pele or fat Donna?

Of those two I'd choose Maradona because he played in Europe whereas Pele stayed in South America.

If it's between Ronaldo and Messi then I go for Ronaldo because he's more likely to inspire his team from losing to winning.

But we're talking bloody small margins.

Like I’ve already said until you can get them all playing at the same time,on today’s pitches, with today’s diets and science nobody can say why the goat is.
With player power today they’d probably refuse to play on this below and you can add to that the fact Tommy Smith wasn’t even booked for his tackle on Ardiles, imagine Ronnie back then with no protection from refs.
Sorry but I’m right as usual.

The pitch is irrelevant, Ronaldo would have sat donkeys like Chopper Harris down on their ass

Cruyff is missing from the list of great players.

Comparing players of yesteryear with today’s players is like comparing apples and pears, the game has moved on as has the science supporting today’s modern players. There is no doubt that Ronaldo is a great player, but he’s been very fortunate to have played in strong teams with some of the the best players around.

The PL was and still is competitive league, but the Spanish and Italian leagues are much weaker and the top teams tend to dominate. Juve and Real Madrid are the richest clubs in their leagues ( as were a Man Utd) and they have hoovered up most of the talent available n their leagues.

I agree that CR7 has played in several very strong club sides which always helps but I think, at international level, he has single handedly dragged Portugal along in the world's top 10 for well over a decade. Yes, of course they have always had some good players such as Luis Figo amongst others but never a world class starting 11 like Real have always had for example. If you read through a list of the top Portuguese internationals, it's hardly a who's who of world class players but to date he's scored 99 goals in 164 international appearances over 17 years. That is superhuman

I must admit the tackle on Ardiles was my fault .I was in the Wing Stand that night and I was on his back during the game I cant say on here what I was gouding him with most of the game but as Ossie came down the right wing I shouted at Tommy and he took him out.Result broken leg
I still to this day am not proud of winding him up. :unamused:

Up until a few years ago I would have argued Messi was better than Ronaldo because Ronaldo is all about himself, he's done very little to make the players around him look good in the way Messi has. I would have said, who would you rather have playing in the team with you handing goals on a plate and scoring them by the hat full himself.

But you have got to hand it to Ronaldo, when you play that consistently, delivering the goods that regularly over such a prolonged period, bringing Portugal the Euros for good measure, as a player maybe you would choose Ronaldo, even if that makes you look like a passenger while Messi at the height of his powers would have made you look like the Worldie. Add to that Messi's inability to do anything with Argentina, when he had top talent, playing around him. It was as if he couldn't function without having the kind of players you only have at a club like Barcelona around him.

In terms of some of the stuff Messi can do, he can put Ronaldo in the shade, but in terms of sheer bringing home the bacon ability R7 wins hands down.

Ronaldo mark one during some of the seasons in Barca was truly exceptional but doesn't compare looking at his career as a whole.

Maradona pulled off some huge feats with an unfancied Argentina in 86 and turned the Italian football world on its head with Napoli, but over his career he falls short of Ronaldo, thanks mainly to some of the choices he, like George Best, made off the field.

R7 is probably less likable than some of the other candidates, which makes many, including myself, reluctant to admit just how great he has been over his career. But you've just got to take your hat off and say yes, you are furckin arrogant, you do come across like a bit of a twat, but you are an exceptional footballer, you have put in the work and you are probably the best I've ever seen, however much of a bitter pill that is to swallow.

Ronaldo dreams of these 2 goals every night. He is a tap in merchant compared to Messi.

Indeed, to prove your point, here's a few of Ronaldo's 'tap ins'

Here are a few Messi long range tap ins. You obviously don't watch La liga do you?

That's fine, but I didn't call Messi a tap in merchant so what's your point?

This along with Neath's earlier post makes him the best for me.

Bale to a lesser extent does it for Wales

Messi/Maradona both not far behind him.
