Cruise Holidays

The pool area on days “at sea” when there’s no excursion and everyone is on board wasn’t fun. We skipped a couple of excursions to enjoy the quieter day by the pool.
I’m sad enough on sea days to be in the gym when it opens for an hours sweat and in the pool by 8 when it’s nice and empty. Then I eat and drink my own weight in food and still come back half a stone lighter.

Hated it, youngest couple by at least 20 years and we were close to 50. No days at sea (Mediterranean) but not nice, grannies and grandpas going to the bar in their swimming stuff. Went to the restaurants each night rather than the buffet, to avoid the clamour, the food and drinks were excellent.

Only positive to come out of it was to see so many countries in two weeks and gave us tasters for places we'll aim to go back to for a longer time. Dubrovnik being one.

Seriously unlikely I'll go on another until my 70's at least.

Getting off the boat at 10pm? Mr Mrs would have an eppy at that. That’s about the time she’s thinking of leaving me to the last hour or so in the bar on my own :ROFLMAO:
No mun, 10pm leaving wherever it’s dropped anchor for the day. Probably allows for a bit of a slower start in the morning.

I watched a few YouTube vids which must have been 'sea days' as there were hundreds of folk crammed around small ish pools whilst the boat was on the move. Not my cuppa either. We don't have sea days with our itinerary so it won't be an issue. Also some late departures, I think Santorini is 10pm so maybe the rush in the morning isn't so critical.
I’ve never been on one with no sea days. That’s when I tend to relax. Couldn’t do a trip every day. We did the Greek islands a couple of years ago. Be prepared for some crowds on Santorini. I’d been there in the eighties when it was quiet and I had a hell of a shock.

Aye we were among the youngest on ours too and we’re both in our early to mid 50s. I didn’t hate it mimd, not by a long stretch, but I can understand why some do.

We were the youngest on ours…when we started 😭

Well I took the metaphorical dip in the water just before Covid pandemic with a Norwegian Fjords cruise from Southampton and it was absolutely brilliant. Sailing from there was so much less hassle than flying.

Not for us. Frustratingly short amount of time at each stop.
Maybe do it again when we're in our 80s.
Struggled to get the mentality that the ship is the holiday and not a mode of transport to get where you want to go.
Great for those who love it though.

Really want to to a Norwegian Fjords one. Mostly for the Northern Lights in the Winter which is less of an urge since I saw them in Skewen, but still on the bucket list.

A Christmas Cruise to the markets in Bruges is on the list for next year.

Fjords is a lovely cruise, but be careful. The beautiful ones (gerainger etc) are not the ones for the northern lights (eg Tromso). Our northern lights cruise was a real disappointment. Sheets of constant rain and couldn’t see the sky never mind any cosmic phenomenon and pretty ugly uninspiring stops.

Southampton is a massive benefit (the only one of that shithole). Last time we got there at 1pm and before 2pm we were on our balcony (must always get a balcony btw…never ever go inside cabin) with a glass of bubbly, all cases unpacked and put away.

Spent 9 years working for "Grey Funnel lines" (Royal Navy to you and me) so did a lot of sea time, so was a bit like a busman's holiday, would love to do a cruise without having to work, probably will one day, I've got good sea legs

Yeah. I've been looking more at the two week ones that tend to do it all rather than the shorter trips so even if the lights are a no show I've still got the pretty stops.

A cruise ship in constant rain sounds like a special kind of hell.
