Yep, I fully confess I didn't rate either player up until this season but as a pair they seem to be getting better and better all the time, it just seems to have clicked. Long may it continue.

Shame that we now could lose both of them.

They are both top level in this league

They more they churn out performances like this, the greater the chance of them moving on. There must be forty clubs able to offer a bigger wedge that what we can.

Likewise, I’ve been critical of Ben in the past and rightly so. He’s been guilty of trying to do things he’s probably not capable of like being a ball playing centre back. Maybe previous coaches have instructed him to do that. He’s just a no nonsense solid defender who can get the better of any attacker in this league. Stick to doing that. As for Darling, he’s now approaching his prime years. Dangle the carrot and offer him the captaincy.

We have the best centre back pairing in the Championship and the useless, incompetent, short sighted yanks are going to let them both walk away for nothing.
Beyond depressing.

Unfortunately there is a good chance that this pairing will be ripped up in January and likely we will be starting from scratch next season with a complete new pairing.
Left short on numbers after the last window and a quarter through the season with our 2 centre backs contracts having less than 12 months to run.

It's on the guys who call the shots.

Cabango has always been a good centre back when asked to play the old centre back way. When he has a partner he is comfortable with he thrives. That seems to be the case now. When he was paired with the young Guehi under Cooper I remember One pundit claiming then they were the best centre back pairing in the league. It's no coincidence in my mind.
Wrexham could go for the pair of them. Especially if they go up.

Agree with what’s been said, as a pair they have come on leaps and bounds. Ben is a totally different player since he’s back to playing his normal central defender role and not trying to be something he never was. This was not his fault, I believe, the coaching was trying to get the whole defence to play out as if we were Man City. Now they are playing as a well drilled unit, I wasn’t the greatest fan of Williams as manager but I think he’s instilled a better feeling and more confidence into the whole defence. I’m sure it helps to have experienced players around them like Naughton coming back and slotting in so impressively and, as I mentioned elsewhere, Franco is the business.

If they want to walk away, they will. If they have decided it's time for a change there is nothing that the management can do about it. If you bribe a man to stay who has decided he wants to go, you don't get what you paid for, just an unhappy guy trapped by money. Been there, done that, it doesn't work.

I'm not quite sure they're the best in the entire league, but there is no question they're the most dramatically improved. Under Williams and Duff last season, and the previous two years under Martin, they looked really shonky most of the time, and there was very little evidence to suggest they'd become what they have this season.

Well done to both players and well done to Luke Williams who has provided them with a team setup that allows them to thrive. It's not attractive at times and goals remain a concern, but you can't argue with us as a defensive unit this season. We're a very solid team now.

Neither of them strike me as players who desperately want to move - both are showing an incredible commitment to the shirt at the moment.

Good to see that both of them are playing with such consistency given what's happening behind the scenes with their contracts.
My impression is there's hope, not necessarily expectation that they'll resign, particularly with Cabango.

He was phenomenal alongside Guehi. But then he was only expected to defend, which seems to be the case again. It’s so obvious that he’s not a footballing CB that I wonder sometimes if there’s anything between Russel Martin’s ears.
