Daytime drinking in Swansea

Mrs lego and I say the same thing when we walk round the marina. Used to be the Pump House and the Tugboat and Turbot and on a Friday and Saturday night you couldn't get through the door. Actually, most pubs were like that and that was the way to socialise in those days (80s)

Good job the internet and social.media fecked that up then.

Swansea was amazing in the 80/90s(70s too from what I've been told) I had lads from Scotland, Newcastle, Midlands, all over Wales coming down even just for one night...but my daughter can't wait to move away from here 😬 I'm glad I grew up in the era I did.

Whereas I'd love to move back but we wouldn't want to be so far from the kids who are true "sarf easteners" now. I've even wondered about selling my gaff here and buying 2 small properties/flats one here and one back in Swansea but costs are eye watering

3 Lamps where the Office used to be may tick some boxes for you

Do it! I lived away for 20+ years, couldn't wait to return home....and I haven't been disappointed. Ok, bit of a shìthole in some quarters but overall a great place to live with the vast majority of people kind and friendly 😀 Plus investment coming into the area 👍

At last you've written something I can agree with. Swansea was a great place to live in the 80s. I loved it; I was living just behind Caswell Bay. I have great memories of summer days on the beach, jogging around the lanes through Bishopston, playing tennis on Langland Bay courts, shopping in Mumbles on saturday mornings then popping in to the White Rose for a pint of Bass. Nights out in the Marina (I've forgotten the name of the three storey place again, we thought it was the dog's kn*b, I had the best New Year's Eve ever in the top floor disco one year). The fish stall in Swansea Market to buy sardines for the bbq, going to the Vetch, Roxy's Restaurant for burgers, Joe's ice cream. Golden memories.

Samba mentioned The Swig and The Schooner. ARQS suggested The 3 Lamps.

Never heard of any of those. I'm off to Google. Cheers once more, all.

Could you be thinking of the Waterside Bar, Pego?

Don't forget the Queens buddy, still my favourite in Swansea. The Swig also and as mentioned above, the Yacht Club. Raj in the Schooner runs an ok place, he's opened up an outside area behind the pub itself but not sure what that is about.

@airedale, the food buddy...it's expensive pub grub which is very hit and miss.

Christ is the Queens still going? Brilliant. So many great pubs gone.

Edit mid late 70s was my era. Fantastic place to be. Missus talking about moving back to Norton/Newton/Mumbles. I'm not sure all a bit cut off by the mumbles road and not sure it's not full of jerks now. Sister recommended we go further west.

3 Lamps has been there forever Lego. Used to be gay? or was that the Bush? I loved the Duke, Cardiff Arms, Adelphi, No 10. I'd still go for the eagle, fords club and coracle to see real swansea life though. Is the 'fowler still going in clase?

I haven’t been up to Clase until last week since they sent us home to work in March last year. I was surprised to see the Fowler as a shop, was a cafe for a while after the pub shut. Apart from that, nothing’s changed much.

The Coracle, Penlan Club, the Ford's and the Eagle are still going, they do tidy grub in the Eagle now, it's been renovated by new owners

The Queen's is a dump, but a well treasured and unique dump, SA1 as some suggested on here is the place to go, some decent food places in the area as well

You lucky urban dwelling Jack Bastards. Was always envious growing up on the boring west Wales coast as a teenager in the seventies. Used to take a Richards coach up to Swansea on a Saturday to watch Swans. It stopped in Pontarddulais for fish and chips on the way back. No consolation for leaving the bright lights of the city though.
