• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler
    Owner, jackarmy.net

I don’t no, do you shop online? Got your bank card on your phone? It’s already happening or has happened. I know there are some folk out there that don’t shop online or have their bank details on their phones, but I’d imagine the number is relatively small to those that do.

Nobody likes change, but it mostly happens anyway.
You should always have a choice, if choices are taken away we are on a slippery slope.

This thread just shows how resigned we are to Corporate control.

Im instinctively against this but the World has moved on (sadly) the fusion of State and Corporate control is now pretty much complete.

I’m not a luddite but for me the pace is leading to a loss of control and freedom. I like to help micro businesses with cash if I can. I also think it’s essential for elderly people.

Soon our lives will all be controlled by that little thing in our pockets. I society is poorer for it personally.
Oh I dunno mind, all for being tracked me, only the bad people need to worry, if my house gets burgled (I've got doorbell and cctv cameras fitted) or I get mugged minding my own business then the bad people should be caught very soon, and the bad people know this, whats not to like 🤷‍♂️ Big fan of being "tracked" me ...

I've been cashless since the start of covid, if a shop or pub wants cash (which they are perfectly entitled to) I'll move on.
I always like to have cash on me, I like to keep 50 to a ton in my wallet, think I got a tenner in it at moment, because we usually have a takeaway delivered on a Saturday and the cash here is in my wallet so money I have dwindles away.:(

Its convienent I use paypal a lot of the time online or credit card rather than my bank debit cards.

This is a very popular argument and one with some merit. But i definitely sit on the wing that maybe fine in most cases. But let’s say we have a Farage takeover and be gets rid of things like the human rights act and all other elements.

Be careful what you wish for. True YOU maybe fine but what happens when they start splitting up families, people who are lgbt etc because a nefarious Gov uses powers that encroach.

I do agree that largely things like CCTV have helped with crime but face recognition software is not perfect by any stretch.

How much more creeping encroachment and intervention into lives is acceptable. Or are we happy to sacrifice it all to feel a bit safer in our beds especially as a heterosexual white man.

Could you expand on that statement.
Well if you want to drive you need a licence. If you want to travel you need a passport. If you want to do either of those things and many others thing, including opening a bank account or getting credit, you need to probe who you are somehow. My point is that it’s the illusion of choice. All this stuff, the databases etc already exist.
