• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

R.I.P Eddie.So sad.
His commentary with Brian Moore was often more entertaining than the game they were commentating on.
“Shave away Gavin. Shave away.”

I don’t do much TV but Eddie was one who would keep me watching.

Very sad news, more so under the circumstances of a charity event.

Lovely man, warm, genuine, witty and very self deprecating. Lived on a farm near to my family’s place in Abergavenny and met him regularly.

From memory, I think John Peel also died at altitude in Peru.

Tragic news.
Never been a big 'egg' fan, but loved listening to him. A great wordsmith who had a great career.
RIP big man, condolences to all who knew/loved him.

Agreed. He could make boring stuff watchable. Also part of 'that try' in 1999 with Bill McLaren. 'Who would you want kicking the conversion...that man'.

Good double act with Moore too, although I thought there was some friction there.

Rugby commentary has just got more bland

RIP

Yes - often used to see him on the platform at Abergavenny Railway Station and occasionally in the Hunter’s Moon in Llangattock.

Saw him play for Pontypool when they were a real force.

Knowledgeable, eloquent and knew how to use imagery

RIP Eddie

A big shock. So sad. He was a great lover of all things Welsh, not just rugby.
Superb with Brian Moore.
My old man got him to sign a copy of a novel he wrote with "C'mon All Whites" he wrote in brackets "oh that hurt"😂

Great Man Dicky, I know a few people that met him and they all said he was a lovely fella and happy to chat, very sad.

I remember Peel passing. He was from Burton (Wirral) the next church parish from where I live and I had just moved to my job here when he died. He also died in Peru at the same age of 65. Two of broadcasting great voices.

The combination of Butler and Moore was always great value.

Can only echo, what others have said, shocked by the news of his passing. Seemed like a nice fella.
RIP.

Lovely Tribute to Eddie Butler on Scrum V just now, Brian Moore was fighting back the tears, sad times, he'll be massively missed by his family first and foremost and in the circles he moved in.

RIP Eddie Butler.
