Very true. I was a huge Cream fan back in the day and a huge Clapton fan for years after. Just goes to show that your musical heroes can still be ordinary people with obnoxious views. He had a big racist rant too, back in the day, which he has since blamed on drink and drugs.

Clapton the solo artist has done very little to deserve the accolades bestowed upon him. All his best work has been collaborations with superior songwriters and singers such as Jack Bruce and Steve Winwood.

He was in some great bands and deserves his place as one of the great guitarists, his solo stuff wasn't very good though, Hendrix will always be the best and I would rather listen to Santana or Stevie ray Vaughan

There's some good stuff in his solo catalogue, but he was basically done as a creative force by about 1990.

There's loads of better guitarists out there.

Yup, great line-up too, I remember Krokus singer thinking everyone was cheering for him, when in fact we were cheering for some guy who climbed on top of the stage roof.

I appreciate Clapton’s tone and playing, he’s quite recognisable, but his songwriting skills are next to non-existent. Someone like Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher or Peter Green was far more interesting in that respect and Neil Young is a genius - terrible singer and guitar player but a million times more listenable than Clapton.

Agree with that ECB. Never got the love for the "full version" of Layla. Like the single version though.

Clapton's albums 461 Ocean Boulevard and August are good albums imo
