This is the kind of bah humbug attitude I can get behind. Having worked in retail during my teen years and being subjected to the same 20 or so Christmas songs on loop for weeks, I am most definitely not a fan.

To stay on topic, I admire ABBA as they clearly wrote and sang very good pop songs, but nothing of theirs ever really clicked with me.
When my wife & I lived in Shropshire, there was a bikers' cafe we used to visit a few times a week and we got to know the owners very well. But at one point, the owner, Karen, obviously bought the ABBA greatest hits cd and never took it off. After a few weeks we're were getting more than a bit pissed off with it, my wife being considerably less tolerant even that me of stuff being relentlessly overplayed. I even overheard another regular punter looking over to me and muttering "Oh fuck, not this again!" so we had to very tactfully suggest to Karen that she went back to changing it on regular basis. Remember, this was a bikers' cafe not a WI meeting! Sadly, it closed for good last year and no one seems to know why and I'll always fondly remember it as the place where my son took his first unaided steps ❤️ 😁 but I don't know if the place had any impact on the fact that he and his girlfriend now own 5 bikes between them! I was last there when he & I popped in there in March last year when I had driven him to Shrewsbury to pick up his brand New Honda Civic Euro ffs!

On a vaguely similar note, many, many years ago the place where I work did an advertising campaign to warn people of the consequences of not paying road tax. The campaign (probably on YouTube somewhere still) utilised the song and the car from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (I met the owner, very odd chap). Anyhoo I spent four 10 hour shifts on the work stand at a motor show at the Birmingham NEC with that advert and song playing literally on a constant loop the entire time. I’ve hated it ever since and if the film comes on telly, which it invariably does every Christmas, it has to go off.

We went to see Johnny Rotten on his spoken word tour in Porthcawl in 2020.
He said that the Sex Pistols were in the VIP lounge of Keflavík International Airport in Iceland waiting for a flight in 1979 and ABBA walked in,Sid went over to say hello and spewed all over them.
