A healthy Championship club should be integrating 1 or 2 academy players every season, not every one will become a game in game out starter but if you never give them time on the pitch then as whaleoilbeefhooked said there is no point in having an academy in the first place.
If they’re good enough they will be in and around the first team and not sent on loan. Lissah has had a few bad seasons with injuries so understandable why he was sent out. Others sent out are clearly deemed not ready for the step up.

Nothing to do with what’s the point of an academy.

Unless we get an injury in Cabango and Burgess, makes little sense to bring Lissah back. Let him continue to play out on loan and come back to us in the summer with full of confidence and push for his place.

The smart management approach here would be to sit down with him and his agent and lay the following out.
We want to immediately extend your contract
You will continue your education at Falkirk for the rest of the season
Nexct season you will be integrated into our first team squad - and will get minutes covering along the back 4 - with the real possibility of starting at RB
Letting him drift toward the end of his contract would be a BIG mistake for the club

Extending his contract is a no brainier financially for all parties concerned.

I believe his contract has 18 months on it, with the option of an extension. I'd be looking to extend it beyond that, but at the very least we need to be triggering the extension.

I think with his versatility he could come back and play now. It seems like this isn't going to happen, but to be fair he is developing well at Falkirk and playing every week. I'm just hoping the plan for him (and Congreve) is to come back next season and be very much part of the first team squad.

As I said earlier, what’s the point of an academy then ?
Apart from good PR and local parents and kids potentially starting supporting the Swans I’d argue there’s very little benefit of being a Cat 2 Academy.

From a purely footballing point of view you either go Cat 1 and compete with the ‘big boys’ or scrap it entirely and use the Brentford model (although I do accept it is far easier to do that in London where 10 other clubs can develop players from 8-18 for you!)
