• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Forest v Liverpool

Didn’t see all the game, but the bits I saw I thought Forest gave a good account of themselves. They tried to play it out from the back and while they were at bit sloppy at times and nearly got punished, they also tried to get the ball forward quickly and had a few chances which they should have done better with. Losing 0 1 to Liverpool at home is no disgrace, plenty of PL teams would settle for that!

Credit where credits due, whatever you think of Cooper he’s done a good job at Forest. ITV commentator reckoned he over achieved by getting Swansea in to the play off final last year.

Where?
Serious question.

He wanted to leave but was asked by the club to stay on until we appointed a new manager.
Plus the reason he didn't go to Fulham or Palace was the refusal by either club to meet the level of compensation they wanted.
So we were paying him until agreement was reached with Martin to take over and he left with the agreed financial package.
All in a statement by Winter a few months ago

Yeah I knew all that but that statement from Winter was after he’d gone there was nothing made clear really before he left other than speculating from the media and made up stories elsewhere.

Just One shot on target in the whole game. 88th minute.
Another big game bottled. Typical Cooper.

That’s how I understood it.

[Yet we received compensation from Forest as he was on garden leave...despite leaving in July

Basically my take is there was a "compromise agreement" though they are called something these days
Whispers are the compo asked for when Palace came calling were silly so preventing talks this obviously upset Cooper and lead to a breakdown in relations, he didnt just walk away and wasnt strictly sacked but academic at the end of the day as he is history now....

I guess there will always be a debate over him especially by those who were so anti him as can be seen from the still negative comments despite his success at Forest playing attractive football mostly whilst we are enduring Martinball which is entertaining and effective

It was standard Cooper-percentage-chance-it-from-channel-balls guff.

Can change the word guff on how you like your footy as you please.

People should read the Julian Winter statements when they come out. There's always lots of good information in there.

As you say, the Cooper situation was pretty clear. He said he wanted to leave, the owners decided to delay in the hope of getting money for him. That didn't happen, so we were left scrambling. Clearly a gamble, and clearly didn't pay off. The "Why" as to him leaving is interesting and something I doubt anyone outside the key protagonists will know for certain.

Hard to say how he'd have done this year. Probably quite well with the budget that RM has been given.

Are there any 2 minute highlight packages available that show us this 'attractive football' that Forest play?

Don’t know about 2 minute highlights but I watched them for about 95 minutes not that long ago and they were miles more attractive to watch than us. Which is probably why they absolutely pasted us.

I've watched a few of their games out of curiosity. Mostly they are impressive, but almost always dangerous because of the pace on the flanks, especially Johnson and Spence (who looks PL to me). They play it out nicely too though and don't just lump it into the channel for them to chase.

Wasn’t there talk that the club had asked for too much compo from Palace ad Fulham, sometimes you’ve got to compromise!

Thats Cooper's forte playing to the strengths of the resources available.....

Since our game the first time I’ve seen them for more than a few minutes was against Liverpool this weekend. I think they play a really nice game from what I’ve seen unless it’s not representative. Lots of pace. Lots of movement.

I think he will end up doing very well. The one that got away.

Cooper could have been our manager for years to come. And would have done a bloody good job at it.

He was maligned for the simple fact that football in general was as boring as hell with no supporters in grounds and some supporters couldn’t cope with a manager who was rather unglamorous.

The asking is in the All Together.

But for whatever reason he made it clear that he wanted to leave. He wasn’t fired.

He sort after a Striker and it seems he was promised funds to get one in, but yanks pulled the plug as they did with Martin this January, his interest weened off and that was that, ambitious young manger let down, by the clubs owners, which soured the relationship and he knew he wouldn't get the support in the summer as well, it seems clear now that he set us up to play the way we did with the players he had, better players better performances better rewards, Forest were bottom when he went there, remarkable turn around.

I hated his Football style, but it seems quite clear now that it was a case of horses for courses.
