Franco

Didn’t think that much of Franco under Williams if I’m honest been a revelation under Sheehan, some of the valuation’s being placed on him in this thread are crazy though….5 million if we were lucky.
Thats so far under his true value. He was the only bright spark under Williams and has multiple mentions on the board this year for such performances. 10 million with add-ons is probably realistic.

Every player is a available at the right price.
I would say 25M is a bit too adventurous but certainly 10M plus is achievable and fair.

I would be happier to keep, if he was to go then the positives would be that we could replace and strengthen in other areas.
Well we didn't strengthen when we sold Flynn Downes.

We sold a player who scored 20 goals a season twice in a row for only just over £10m, yet people don't learn. If we get a £10m+ bid for Franco, he's almost certainly gone. That's the reality of our finances, unless the new owners are willing to pump a lot more money in to the club.

You obviously can’t pump money into a club. There are rules. But if I were a super wealthy owner and proper Jack, I’d be looking at imaginative ways of keeping a player that gets around the rules. Just saying.

There are also ways to pump money into a club within the rules, as the likes of Stoke and Cardiff have proved over recent years. For the record, I'd rather we didn't go down this route as it's unsustainable in the long term (although I don't think there's any chance we would anyway).

My point was more that we can talk about £25m or whatever as much as we want, but it's not realistic. Downes was younger and had the English premium, but went for around £12m. Piroe was a proven 20 goal a season player at this level and younger than Franco is now and left for £10m (thankfully now more like £12m total).

We also have no other player in the team who could realistically attract bids of £10m+. I'm hopeful he's still here next season but also think we have an idea of the price at which we'd almost certainly have to sell players like Franco.

I do chuckle when I see some people's valuation of some of our players.
Would the prospective buyers of clubs be saying. Have you seen that midfielder at Swansea he's really had a great half season in his first season in the championship. Let's see if we can get him for under 20m.
I agree with what he's done and possibly capable of. I couldn't see anyone offering more than 3-5m.

If someone offers that amount then he remains with us.
He won't go for 20m but he will certainly go for more than 5m.

As much as I'd love it, Franco isn't going to fetch us £20m this Summer. I don't think he'd even get us £10m, tbh, and he's my favourite player we've had in a long time.

People have cited the cost of Piroe, but it's worth looking at someone like Sara from Norwich. He was effectively the best player in the league for 18 months, Brazillian (i.e., a prestige nationality), and only 24 - but he went to a club the size of Galatasaray for just over £15m.

I'd take £9m for him, and kiss him goodbye

Losing both O’Brien and Franco from this team isn’t something I’d like to contemplate.

Keeping him would be the right thing to do. I just can't see anyone offering more than 5m at this time.
Will he be in Championship team of the season? How many times has he been in the championship team of the week? He's a very good player but does he standout to other clubs as he does to us?

Its not about selling him for that much, its about drawing a line in the sand.

We don't want to sell, the player is under contract for a long time to come and theres no risk in his contract running out anytime soon. That's what I mean by its a seller's market, if other teams want him then they need to meet our terms which can be as outlandish as we want them to be before there can be a conversation

Franco's value is entirely down to who wants him. If it's a Premier League side then £20 million isn't unrealistic. If it's a fellow Championship side in receipt of parachute payments then £10 million tops. Any team not in receipt of parachute payments and you'll be lucky to get £5 million, unless the team has received a large windfall from a player sale.
