Keeping this one simple. If what he wants is within our budgets we should pay it, if its not then we should cash in for whatever we can get in January

And as for Williams, he is our manager, the club have stated he is saying he is our manager, he is saying there are no discussions with WBA so lets just back him for now?

Everything comes back to the owners with investment and a short and long term plan.

With that, players need to see it and see pathway to develop their careers.

It's clear we don't offer contracts on a par with the rest of the Championship clubs so begs the question, what is the ambition of Coleman and the others?

If it's to be sustainable at this level we become the new Bristol City and Preston of this league.

If what he wants is within our budget, of course we’re going to pay it. Why wouldn’t we?

It was reported he is on £19,231, I wouldn't even pay him that to be honest.
I bet that isn't the highest wage either. Is there anyone in the squad worth paying that or more?

If it were up to me I'd go after the lad from Wycombe and let Darling sit on the bench between now and the end of the season.

The Wycombe lad looks like it might be a goer, nearly 20k a week for an average centre half playing for a mid table Championship side is not for me, if he can get more elsewhere then good for him.

That's the way I'm looking at it.

20k per week isn't to be sniffed at. If the lad is motivated by money then I'd rather he went elsewhere to earn it.

He can probably see a fat signing on fee in a few months, so wants that as well. From his point of view it makes sense to hang on and let it be an open competition which normally drives up price. It’s really hard to do but I think contractual decisions need to be made 18 months before expiry. Leave it any later and if you then want to renew it gets a lot more expensive. Football is a crazy financial model.

Grimes is supposedly on 21K a week and Pederson close to 25K a week, I don’t know how accurate these wage reports are though.

H had a good game yesterday. Put his body on the line, and made some last ditch tackles, one especially after Key lost the ball in the middle of the park. He also chips in with a few and is a nuisance in the oppositions box. He’s come on massively in the last year and a half.
It wouldn’t be unreasonable to make him captain and the highest earner too IMHO

They reckon the average wage in the championship is between 7k to 10K.

If he's 20k, we're already paying over the odds and anymore than that is criminal for a player of his ability.

Harry Darling is a bang average player for this level, like most of our squad. Where we are in the table, which is where we've been most of the season, backs that up.

If he's asking for a contract that reflects a player operating at the higher end of this division, then he should be told to get on his bike, and let some other mug pay it to him so they can learn the hard way.

If he wants to sign a deal that more accurately reflects an average centre back who plays for a mid-table club, then different story.

If that's all correct, then signing him for £1m+ and paying him around £20k per week (don't think he's signed a new contract since joining us), is just one more example of the loony way this club has been run in recent years.

Somebody the other day compared us to a smaller version of Man United in how we are run and this would apply to that comparison. We need to be looking for value in the transfer market, not paying a large fee and huge wage relative to the division average for a player from the league below.

If Darling wants anything above the top end of the average wage in this division, then we need to get rid. Ideally for a fee this month if possible. He's probably one of our best players, but that says more about the state of our squad than anything else. He's not one of the best players in his position at this level, so we can't pay him like he is.

Darling was excellent yesterday and he clearly kept us in the game, without him there we probably would have been at least 3 down at H/T, been excellent most of the season, bar to odd brain fart, Darling and and Cabango are a decent pairing for us and they clearly trust each other, how many times did Darling cover for Christie yesterday who was awful, his pace as gone along with his ability to read the game.

If we can keep Darling then we should do it, but within our means.
