My father in-law is soon to have a hip replacement and we need to source a proper hospital chair. Anyone on here have one they don't want any more or alternatively anyone know of a place in Swansea I can go and get one? Not bothered about it being new.

Hows it going Legoman. Have we tried Surequip on Wytchtree roundabout. Worth a shout.👍

Have you tried some of the charity shops or organisations such as Age U.K., eBay, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace ? I got a zimmer for my mum from the British Heart Foundation shop, once I explained why I needed one they wouldn't take any cash so I made a donation instead.
You could always speak to the Occupational Therapy team at the hospital he’s going to have the op at to see if they can assist post discharge, they’ll be really keen to free up the bed so may be able to assist.

Thanks MajorR and Darran, apologies for the delay in responding. We already got one chair from FB Marketplace but there's no others available close by Killay.

I'll give the other places a try when I'm down in Swansea in a couple of weeks.

Against all his principles, my father in law is having the op privately as the wait in Swansea for an NHS op could be as long as 5 years apparently. He's 90 on 8th Jan so go figure!

It's absolutely disgusting that your farther in law has to go private after paying his stamp but fully understand, he needs quality of life now to enable him to plough ahead, speedy recovery 👍

I wonder if this organisation may be helpful in this circumstance? A family member has used its service(s) to help adapt her house to cater for her disabilities. They may be in a position to offer good advise or assistance?

Good shout WSW. We used them to organise a wet room at the in-laws house, but I hadn't thought that they might be able to assist with equipment.

They were great when it came to the installation of hand-rail grabs for my elderly relative with mobility problems with a struggle to get up and down from steps.

That aside a hip-replacement is an operation that'll require a lot of post-operative care/caution to make sure that there are no complications, and there may be other items aside from the chair that may also be helpful?

A relative of mine was told not to drive for six weeks after the operation which backs up the "proceed with care/caution and take it easy approach". It is a surgical procedure that takes months to recover from fully, that surprised me because I had thought it was a case of up and about as usual after about two weeks.

There’s a place on the main drag in Morriston by Macdonalds, in the old Workshops for the Blind building.
