What are peoples tips/ideas for investing? or experiences of such?

Personally I have passive investment spread out over

Stocks
Cryptocurrency
P2P lending
Savings accounts

Have done a small amount of active trading in Forex but not so much recently

All have their nuances, positives and negatives, as a % im more invested in the stock market, but learning more and more about the tech and future of cryptocurrency.

The term 'passive investing' when talking about P2P lending and cryptocurrency trading don't seem to me to sit well.

I've not got involved in crypto have you got a crypto tip ?

I used to mainly invest in Israeli tech companies listed in London and new York, they did great

Worst things I ever dabbled in were biotech , a pile of crap

Forget savings accounts right now , pick your own stocks buy low sell high

Now is not a good time to invest

People who profit on a rising stock market are the same people who are shorting it when its crashing

The mug private investors lose whilst Goldman Sachs gains

Passive as to mean I add a nominal amount of money in each month regardless of price action, with a long term return and strategy in mind.

Re crypto - other than the best tip being taking the significant time to build understanding of the fundamentals of the tech, do research on projects that you feel the tech will serve purposely, theres a lot of projects around, some promising, some an outright scam.

Through the jargon, it can be tough to understand the overall aim of some projects.

For example, I am building a position in a renewable energy platform, that is looking to implement the blockchain tech in the hope of utilising and enabling energy trading between peers. That is a clear and understandable aim.

Make sure they have a detailed White Paper, and good social media presence.

I can't give you a 'moonshot', because I don't invest in that way.

Biotech can be lucrative if you feel you have your finger on the pulse and knowledge in regards to clinical trials etc, especially in recent months in regards to vaccine news.

I actually take a more contrarian approach, for me a time of depression is a more positive time to invest, before a recovery, although the market at the moment is not in a depression per say imo, although the next few months could easily change that.

I confess I don't really know what I'm doing. I blundered into investing because I needed a pension but being a grade A cock I refused to pay for a financial adviser. The best tip I can give (learned through bitter experience) is to be wary of tips.

My SIPP (40% of my total assets) is predominantly in Vanguard Life Strategy / Equity funds. They perform well and are relatively low cost.
My Isa (10%) is spread across loads of stuff with a significant chunk with Vanguard 80% Equity holding).
My rental property (30%) has a pathetic yield of about 3% but it's low stress. A couple of mates have property portfolios and seem to be perpetually in legal disputes with their tenants. Sod that.

Savings are crap of course so I've maxed out my premium bonds though the prize fund is being reduced in December.

I decided Cryptocurrency was a stupid investment. This was in the wake of deciding that paying 200K for a flat in Chiswick would be insanity. I'd be practically living on my own island by now if I'd had the required foresight to take either of those on but I'm happy enough.

I offered some advice about investing in large orthopaedic companies (on the other board) around 4 months ago.

Anyone who took that advice feel free to buy me a few pints next time we are allowed to watch the Swans. :D

This week PayPal announced they will be accepting Cryptocurrency as a method of payment next year

Bitcoin now up 20% this week and at all time highs for the year ($13K), and dragging the rest of the market with it

Still some way off the record highs of the end of 2017 ($20k), but there is some confidence that it will get there.

Just a quick thought, being a regular visitor on this site. Does anyone fancy investing in our playing squad? Posters on here are always going on about how it would be great to invest in new players.

Watch it go!

In addition, the stock market has truly baffled me over the last 2 days

Some argue that the market is efficient, and prices reflect all available information

My arse!

That reminds me of that Swansea guy who dumped his pc and a few years later realised he had a million quids worth of bitcoin on it, he never did find it, and no, it wasn't me
