• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Great commitment, more than many a career. This site has been my main source of Swans news and will be sorely missed but good luck what the future may hold

Hope the forum can continue, has been a great source of information/contact for me as there aren't any other jacks round here, thanks to Phil for all your hard work

Moderation is not the issue, running the site is the issue I feel. I think ECB would be open to continue Moderating and I would help out whilst doing my bits.
My curiosity is purely like many it's sad to see the site go. I'm new to this forum over the last year. And it's a crying shame it's going. Stupid question again, but in terms of running the site, what is the issue there? I generally thought an in an uneducated way, it's Moderating is the issue.

I was never fortunate to get my PJ on I was in the shallow end with the thickos and fattys who couldn't swim. 😂😂
We used to have our lessons at the leisure centre and those who couldn't "swim" were left to their own devices, obviously I couldn't swim, wink, wink.

Someone needs to run the site. Like you I have no idea what that entails, it’s not something I would want to do anyway. However, the day to day moderation would most probably be continued by ECB and the other moderators, including myself. Moderation is not the issue because we are still available.

It’s the general running of the site that we have an issue. Phil has done a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes. Heavy duty and time consuming work along side his work and family life, etc… Someone needs to step up and take on the responsibilities and mantle of leadership.

I don’t know the ins and outs of the running of the site which Phil took on, but I think it included waking early before work and running the site and producing information in those early mornings. The majority of the stuff he published was done at an ungodly hour in the mornings. I might be wrong here, but it is no wonder he now wants to now shut up shop after 25 amazingly successful years running this forum in its various guises.

If we could keep the forum alive , that should be the priority. Phil has said to me many times that it’s not the “news” that drives sites like these it’s the forum and the community that builds up around it. People come to these sites for the forum and conversation, not the articles. In the main anyway. If forum posts drop so do clicks, hits and advertising revenue.

Has he received your letter of request to transfer ownership yet? 👀🙏

Personally from someone who works in marketing and is a business development role, it makes sense to seperate the forum from the site if time is not there (in my view) if there is no one to run the other side. . Fundamentally then the forum is running it self via moderators. I presume advertisement is somehow featured on the channel as I always see ones at the top. And that would be contributed to whatever. The social drive would be helping contribution factory to drive traffic and discussion to the forum directly. It's difficult to overly comment as we don't know ins and outs. But the amount of activity on this forum would be wasted.

Thanks for that. Another fan site a few years ago went away from the exclusive route of news as it had its flaws. Good or bad. And now leans mote into insight and discussion. It fundamentally meant you wasnt chasing your tail. I think if the forum was its own entity, it's the platform then for what it is, opinions and views. And a platform to share such news from other outlets to discuss. If Jack Army Net can't be the site for exclusive news or regular insight then it needs to lean into its biggest asset that not even the Indy in all respect gets. And that's the volume of chat. The question then remains if this is a project for those who love the Swans or can it also be beneficial to those working as well in some compacity. That doesn't mean throwing a 100 adverts on the site, but does mean working closely with said outlets that benefits the people on the site and the people running it.
