• We have today (22nd April) confirmed the closure of JackArmy.net on 31st May. Our reasons are varied but after a twenty-five year stint at the heart of the online Swansea City community, the time is right for us to bow out. The poster formerly known as 'Andrew North Hill' here.

Sorry to see the site potentially going at the end of May. A shame. Hopefully something else somewhere can fill the sizeable gap it will leave behind.

Anyhow - I have only briefly returned just to wish everyone who I have conversed with over the last few years all the best. It's been (mostly) a fun ride.

Take care
Well done Andrew ,i am rarely in evidence on here these days, and when I have looked in I noticed that apart from a few posters from the 'old' site I hadn't seen you either.
All the best from me too,we often disagreed but I hope without any bad feeling.
Somehow the logic of becoming overly worried about our favourite club and favourite game, seemed to run out of steam for me, given the world as it is fast becoming.Entering the 8th decade probably influenced that too
Good luck with everything.

I’m totally lost with people’s User Names on here. There is a block of people who have had the same user names from the start. But then there is a load of posters who I have no idea who they are. When I joined I put my name as Jack Harries by mistake, I was glad when I was able to change it to Jackharris.

It would be a shame to lose such a site - its kept me sane for quite some time when living away from the area.

If I can help in anyway to keep the site going then I'm happy to, got a few websites of my own so used to the hosting, domain transfer etc my problem is short of time so possibly help with the tech side but not sure moderation etc.

Also agree with all of the above, Phil deserves some serious recognition for his work and the community he has grown! Big up Phil.

My lack of replies to this thread tells you much about why i have decided to call it quits now but since i made the announcement i have been snowed under with everything else i have on my plate.

i think though i have eventually replied to all the messages i have had via the channels we use. the comments and best wishes have been humbling as, i fairness, have been the offers to help so we can continue.

The decision to retire the site was not taken lightly and has been in my head for a year or so. i’ve considered all options but the reality is the control freak in me wouldn’t let me hand the keys to anyone else. i contemplated last year an appeal to see if anyone wanted to take the site as a “going concern” but the reality is this site in this name will always be seen as mine so i want the clean break.

My reasons for this are clear in my own head , the first of which comes back to 15 years at the helm of the Trust. for 11 years this was busy but enjoyable but for 4 years post the 2016 sale it drained. working with like minded people to build and create a strong legal case was tiring and took its toll as it became exhausting. it still annoys me that people threw that work away in a heartbeat and have been largely invisible since.

that period though, coupled with the closure of football during COVID led to be becoming more distant from the club. twenty years of thinking of Swansea City every day turned into it becoming something in the background from me and anyone that knows me knows i went from an ever present watching the Swans to a casual observer who maybe sees 10 games a year. i tried yo use the site to reignite the passion but it’s not worked and the fact that some of my successors decided their personal freebies were more important than a legacy still stings and keeps me distanced from Swansea City.

My other driver is time. over time , things fill spaces in life and i spent time doing other things which mean that i don’t want to spend time clarifying in my mind what will go on the website next but want to spend time relaxing and recharging batteries instead of picking up the keyboard and sharing latest thoughts.

The reasons do not go beyond that. i have always been someone who gives his all to anything he does and the reality is i can’t give what i want here so it’s time to call it a day. i’ve been fortunate to create a community over time that played a part in a remarkable story. Unfortunately it didn’t tick the boxes in Jack to a King that was needed so it got overlooked but that’s what happens when a vanity project overtakes a historical story.

i’ve met some good people on here and , during some of the issues of the sale, my own vehicle (this site) was used to question the decisions and drive agendas that the Trust knew. records will always show otherwise but one thing i am proud of is , unlike the current incumbents of the Trust board, we stood and faced raise accusations head on.

For me, 25 years is a great shift , but it’s time to say goodbye hence the announcement last week and today we enter the last month of the site.

someone else taking it on is not an option, someone setting up a forum always is. You just need forum software, hosting space, time and a thick skin. i developed one over time , trust me it’s something you need.

it’s been fun though and hope the above makes sense for my reasons. once a jack…

I’m nearly in tears.
Love you Philip. ❤️
