Joe Allen

Welcome home Joe and sod the neysayers.

I agree. Joe isn't the future, we know it, he knows it, and RM knows it but with Downes gone and the season starting in 3 weeks time, that is a huge hole they need to fill quickly and although he's not the same type of player, Joe will do that and give our management at least this season to find the next Flynn Downes so they can concentrate on strengthening elsewhere which we all know is needed.

Joe will do fine for a couple of seasons or until his legs go.

We are starting to look a bit lightweight physically across the entire team though. We saw an example of this towards the end of the season when Cabango went off injured and we fell apart. There is nobody in midfield or upfront now with any sort of physical attribute to be aggressive and hand out the punishment we receive on a weekly basis from opposition and the ignorance of it from referees.

Our wingbacks won't offer any. So unless we make further DM signings I'm expecting us to get kicked and bullied all season long

"The future" is an absolutely ridiculous concept anyway when talking about any footballer.

Joey will no doubt give us a couple of good seasons at least on the playing front and bring an incredible amount of professionalism and experience to the dressing room.

If we get two good seasons from Joe, that's more than Downes did and more than pretty much any player we've signed to play in that role since he left has.

I dont see the issue if we replace Downes with a player with no fee and then spend that money to bring in a couple we can make a big profit on next summer or the one after. Obviously I realise whether we do that or not is another matter.

Medical tomorrow, 2 year contract according to WOL.

Sure, he isn't going to have any sort of sell on value but even though we aren't directly replacing Flynn Downes with someone that we can sell on for profit in time, we will be able to bring in younger players for six figure transfer fees as a result.

This summer we've already brought in Harry Darling, who's a similar profile in everything but position (fee, age, nationality) to Flynn, it's just that he's not directly replacing him in the side.

I'm happy with this, no way will Joe let himself or Swans down, might be a tough call, but I'd make Joe Captain as well, maybe put Grimes's nose out of joint, but that's sport and football for you.

2 year contract sounds about right, especially if we also include an option for a 1 year extension.

Based on his showings in the world cup playoff games I think we can reasonably expect him to hold up for two years which should be ample time to groom or recruit a successor.

I’ve been wanting Joe back for years, chuffed that he’s finally coming home and he will undoubtedly be an asset for the next couple of years…very experienced now, too. Should be given the armband?

Sod the ‘never go back’ lot.

Aye, O suspect that is a part of the calculation...plus a boost in shirt sales with Allen on the back.

In a perfect (Swans) world I'd rather keep Downes for two years, but as that's not possible, and if we are going to pay to bring Joe back, then I'm chuffed to have him back. He'll be an asset.
