John Toshack

Terribly sad news to hear that yet another person has fallen victim to this awful disease.

It’s something that affects so many of us whether directly or indirectly.

My father was struck down by dementia in his later years, but there were signs that something wasn’t quite right much earlier than this.

I remember when he stopped going to his local working men’s club, and when I asked him why, he explained that he wasn’t able to hold a conversation like he used to anymore.

It didn’t overly concern me at the time, as he was pretty much his normal self apart from this, at least from what I could tell.

Little did I know at the time, that that was probably the first signs of his cognitive decline.

My sister’s friend was diagnosed in her 40s and it was horrendous, especially for my sister, to see her decline into a world where no one wants to go.

If the posters on here aren’t already aware of, or in contact with Alzheimer’s Society, then I would recommend getting in touch with them as their support would be an enormous help to anyone who is suffering with the terrible effects of this illness, both directly and indirectly.

Also their mission statement is clear, which is to put as much pressure on each and every Government that is in power, through campaigning and petitioning, to do more to help those people on the frontline, whether they be the sufferers themselves or their family members and friends.

As they say on their website, this is going to take a huge effort on the part of everyone in the UK, to get the politicians to listen up, and wake up to the reality of what is causing so many deaths here in this country.

The more pressure that we can put on them, the more it will mean that they can’t turn a blind eye to this indefinitely.
