Let’s be honest

There were times during the first half of the season that the football was admittedly uninspiring, but, many fans could see what was trying to be achieved.
Some of the football in the second half of the season was superb, the title of this thread is ..Let’s be honest, if you can’t admit that we played some superb football then this thread is lost on you.

If you did a straw poll now I think most fans would have RM back in a heartbeat, not going to happen he’ll go on to bigger and better things than us.

Indeed, we did play some lovely football under Russ. There’s no denying this.

However, in your own words, tell us what he was trying to achieve. Don’t come back with short answers like passing game or superb football, this would be too easy. Instead, take your time and describe the contents that Russ had in PowerPoint deck. You’ve said it yourself, you could see it. For those of us that couldn’t, explain it. Don’t rush the answer as I will be offline for next twelve hours.

I don’t understand why our fans continue to reference Russell Martin.

Whether he was pushed into going, wanted to stay, was the best manager since Alex Ferguson, the worst since Bob Bradley etc etc etc is irrelevant.

A huge reason why we are in this mess is despite us knowing he was off within a few days of last season ending, at the latest, we decided to rip up all the good work he did (and there was some, at least), go in a totally opposite direction (needlessly) and take a scatter gun approach to signings, a lot of whom have barely had a kick for us.

Of course, the other thing is that we’ve lost two players who continuously popped up with goals and assists in Piroe and Manning and replaced them with two underwhelming yet expensive players in Yates and Tymon.

Won't comment on most of that but will Regards your last sentence. If we had a board who cared and understood football, they would have invested in a good scouting network years ago.....we wouldnt have then spent over 5M on Yates and Tymon but spent less on better players.

What's that saying about accumulate again!?

Pretty simple really, winning football playing an attractive brand of football at the same time, hard work in the early days but started to pay off towards the end.

Playing the way we did with that bunch of players was a remarkable achievement in my opinion, if Piroe had been able to hit a barn door in the first half of the season and with the right backing in the January window then we might be enjoying VAR right now instead of worrying about relegation.

100%

Although they have invested in numerous recruitment teams over the last few years, none of whom have lasted very long. Whether they were rubbish or had their hands tied by the board, we’ll never know… but either way the same people are to blame.

Clearly when you’re changing your recruitment team every 5 minutes you’re getting absolutely no continuity whatsoever.

Our summer recruitment looked like someone and thrown darts at a board with a load of names.

Yeah cut the bullshit, you loved him for his hair and his sweet talk, nothing else.

I thought he was a bit of a fraud, to be honest. That doesn’t mean I think he was bad, but he wasn’t the tactician he thought he was.

We really struggled to build phases of play and penetrate the lines. So that often just left us looking a bit clueless and recycling possession. We weren’t terrible going forward, but we weren’t good at it either.

And we always had an issue in both boxes, and that’s the most important thing.

I felt for him though. He was dealt a sh*t hand by the owners and had a poor squad to work with. We were ‘only’ a quality addition in each part of the pitch away from being genuine PO contenders imo.

 Let‘s summarise this:

Copa: I love Russ and I can ‘see what he’s trying to do’

Cooper: please tell us what this means

Copa: to win games

And another point, you can’t give Russ the credit when we won and then blame Piroe when we lost. This was a trait of Russ, as well. He hung a few out to dry.

Anyway on we go, from one duff(er) to another.

He had a decent squad to work with, he just failed to play to its strengths. When he did overcome his stubbornness we saw a tactical change that coincided with an upturn in results.

If we had a board who knew what they were doing they would've backed Potter and we wouldn't be in this mess

Seriously Tommy, have you ever considered therapy, you seem very insecure regarding your sexuality, constant references to my supposed love for a former manager tells me there’s something going on with you.

Stick to comments regarding football, you’re making a bit of a tool of yourself if you ask me.
