Whittaker simply has to start ahead of him on Saturday

I’ve just been talking about this on Twitter. I’m not sure he should. I’m not sure he should start in a derby up against a prick like Morrison.

Good point Daz, but Morrison and their neanderthals will be wound up to fck , and if we are savvie, a sending off is very likely. For me, Lowe is hiding atm.

Lowe has very little positional awareness. What he had in his purple spell was some stamina, which now seems to have gone. Whittaker must start but we have so many players running and thinking on empty that slight changes won't make much of a difference

Oh I tend to agree but Whittaker showed enough in 45 minutes for me to say he has to start but we are a team that is completely devoid of energy right now

When I saw the back 3 line up I was concerned. Injuries haven't helped but words and action from Cooper don't match. Yet again he keeps Ayew on for a hopeful bit of magic. However bad the result was Bournemouth scored with the first that on another day could have gone anywhere, an own goal and a late goal when we pushed forward and didn't track back. Only one other attempt on target that Woodman put over the bar. At 2-0 if the Whittaker shot had gone on it might have been interesting as they looked vulnerable in defence.

he's big lad too - could be better option than lowe

they are awful defensively, but cooper set up for a draw again, this is the problem - we do not attack teams like a team looking for promotion should do

He's got something that's been lacking in the team for a while, a bit of pace and is willing to take a chance.

He'd be an ideal opponent for that pr1ck Morrison on the deck, and there could be a red card in the offing.

Yes but I think they’ll have one eye on keeping calm and just not losing.

Any other team in the league and I would drop Lowe, he needs to be.

But throwing Whittaker into a derby against Morrison and expecting him to take his chance won't help us in my opinion. Lowe is on his last throw of the dice Saturday.

Genuine question here as I do see your point but do you think the relevance of it being a derby is taken away by the fact it is behind closed doors?

In other words does it mean as much to the players as it does to the fans? I'm not sure it does and it's just another game to them (although clearly none of them will say that!)

One thing is certain, we will need players on the pitch (Saturday) that want to be there. I'm not sure Lowe does atm, he's hiding Phil, the fact thers no crowd could ease bit of pressure on Whittaker if he starts. Lowe has lost his pace, and against their cavemen back 4, an alternative may be required.

I completely agree on Lowe, he needs to be dropped and given time out of the team. His effort has gone and - bar a purple patch around the last derby - he has largely been a disappointing signing for us.

Whittaker showed last night he is hungry and I think playing him is the right way on Saturday.

We actually played some decent football in the first half last night with no penetration, some of this was caused by Lowe (and Ayew) being largely static and us insisting that the only way to get into the area was to look for Connor Roberts.

Lowe has been shocking the last few games. Lack of form is understandable, but lack of effort should never be tolerated. There again, why should he work his nuts off, he seems guaranteed his place no matter how he plays.

Summed it up perfectly there. Comes to something when Roberts and Cabango have probably scored more goals combined than all our midfield players Dhanda, Grimes, Fulton and Smith

I can't see what you have to lose by starting Whittaker. Maybe the service has been poor, but Whittaker managed to get more chances on goal out of that service in the time he was on last night than Lowe has had in the past five or six. I'm scratching my head here, and forgive me my memory isn't what it was, but I seriously can't remember the last time Lowe had a credible effort on goal. Have there been any since the Bristol match?

Plus, the best Lowe has been in terms of offering anything at all, was when he came on against Middlesbrough, so maybe he could make some impact off the bench if Whittaker starts.

Yes I agree that it's definitely going to be different behind closed doors. With that said I also agree as would anyone that it means more to the fans than the players, and more granularly I think it means more to different players within the teams (Connor is going to give more of a toss than Lowe being an example).

I would class Morrison as one of their players who gives a toss about this game and will increase his levels as a result.
