Either bringing him on or taking him off is one of his go to tactics.
It just meant he was bound to get lucky eventually
It certainly was not down to any tactical nous or genius masterstroke that changed the flow of the game

That's very true.

It's also concerning it is all he seems capable of doing.

When was the last time we saw a change of formation during a game?

That's the thing most fans know the subs he will make before he makes them.

It needed a change in formation to be more attack minded when chasing the game.

What we got was more of the same.

Absolutely, we were chasing the game today and he brought on Cyrus Fucking Christie

I frequently look at our bench and can't see a single option that I'd want to bring on.
We've got a respectable first 11 that's mid table Championship standard. The squad as a whole is nowhere near good enough to mount a playoff challenge.
Even in the first 11 our mentality is lacking with too many players making rushed and poor decisions and executions in both penalty areas.

Fans of teams are always complaining about their lack of Plan B, but I'll be astonished if there's another club in the 92 with as little flexibility as us. It's 4-2-3-1 every game, subs will always be like for like, and we'll hold until the ball nicely until a winger does something.

I think Williams is a bang average manager, but this is by far his biggest weakness.

Agree. When we get the ball into the final third there is so little movement off the ball in the middle of the pitch. Ball invariably played wide. Rinse and repeat.

Williams was doing ok-ish, until he made an insane decision to allow Grimes to build his empire even further by doing his team talks for him.

He's absolutely f*cked himself by doing that, because there is nothing he can say to the players about today's debacle, they'll just be thinking "we don't have to listen to you, we answer to Matty".

Basically he's outsourced control of the dressing room to a mediocre Championship player and (pound for pound) the most ill suited captain this club has ever had.

We don't have great options and this is why substitutions have been an issue all season for us.
We don't have much attacking options, a winger even with a bit of speed who can be an outlet or turn the opposition defence for instance.

Expectations have been set high but mainly by fans who want to give a level that reflects in the manager as being poor. The truth is and you nail it on the head, we have a decent starting 11 but a weak/thin squad as a whole that is lacking in the final third.

Today was a bad result and the manager deservedly will take the flak but let's not takeaway from the fact that as a whole we are doing OK.

Seems there might be someone I the corridors that is sticking the knife in Williams.

Are we getting to a stage where Sheehan might need to go?

I said this years ago about Grimes.. honestly, only now you're waking up
