Matt Grimes

It is curious that 3 managers in a row have made him a mainstay of the team while here, pretty much first name on the team sheet, yet the previous two have not even been rumoured to be interested in signing him after moving on. Will Martin be the first? I'm going to guess not.

It is one of the great contradictions that the Matt Grimes who is apparently the lynchpin of our team and one of the very best players in the division according to his supporters has attracted no serious intereest from teams higher up the football food chain in his nigh on ten years here, not even when they could have signed him on a free.

Flynn Downes was gone at immense profit after just one season, yet MG remains.

Chats with my Saints work colleagues today and they state Grimes is well on their radar especially after after a lot of poor performances from their midfield last night .

JWP off to West Ham as well fro 30 mills, may be legs in these rumours soon

Soton are swimming in money, and will soon be drowning in it. Then they'll give it to Russ to spend on MK and Swansea players. IF he comes calling we need to inflate our prices.

At the moment we can ill afford to lose Grimes. Both him and Joe were excellent last night albeit against lower league players. Joe not likely to play every game without injury, Jay dependable but more limited, Cooper developing, Ntcham gone, Paterson is Paterson and Walsh keeping up his injury record. Grimes is the linchpin and would be hard to replace with the season underway.

He’d be too expensive.

100% especially after the Russ situation and Southampton inflating their own price, I don’t think we’ll have to worry about giving in we hold our own these days.

They'll only fix that by sacking the fraud not getting in more players😂

Think that rules out Soton.

Shame they’ve got Downes mind, an excellent player.

Didn't Downes already turn them down a couple of weeks ago?

Think he’s down the pecking order abit more now with some signings they’re doing.

I thought so. Must have been told in no uncertain terms he wasn’t part of the plans at present. If this is true of course.

Ward-Prowse for Finn swap is a tidy bit of business for Russ.
