Ask yourself who benefits more from a reported fee being higher than the actual one, or one that ignores the payment structure and add on clauses. Is it the club that is buying or the club that is selling. It’s also in the interest of the player and the agent to be seen as commanding the highest fee possible.

Regardless of how accurate the fee is or isn’t, I don’t understand how some people use it as a noose to hang a player with as soon as they come through the door.

Well i dont actually blame the player unless they're blatantly not trying.

Doesn't mean they dont know. Players talk, managers talk, agents talk.

Depends on the circumstances, there is sometimes benefits to clubs leaking this stuff. Maybe an owner wants to show ambition, maybe they want to demonstrate their shrewdness. Could be any number of reasons.

Clubs don’t want accurate fees to get out because then other clubs will know the type of money you have to spend, and receiving clubs lose their bargaining power. The truth is, you don’t know and neither do I, that’s the bottom line.

Not without no inside information, but its only natural for most to form an opinion on what the club has paid for players.

As I said, this information isnt always knowingly released by clubs.

But that’s just it, a guess, and no clue on what the structure of that deal is or the real cost to the club.

A £5 million reported transfer may only cost the club £2 million if clauses aren’t hit, even if that £5 million headline figure is accurate. Promotion as a trigger for example.

If the club then sell for £3 million straight cash, you would mark it as a bad signing because you would say it lost £2 million when in fact they profited £1 million.

Unless you work for the club and were involved in the deal, you have mo idea whatsoever., just like the rest of us.
So you pay zero attention to any transfer fee ever reported or suggested?

This descending into silliness now, you may not like that say some signings haven't played well but are you really going to be this partisan and untrue to yourself to claim that you dont have an incling or care about any fees?

There is no way you have any idea what the cost to the club is, even if you think you know the rough headline max fee if all clauses and extras are hit.

Please enlighten us?

I have, above. There is a lot of information out there to form an opinion of what we may think a transfer fee maybe.

What do you do when we sign for undisclosed then?

Give it no thought and ignore all rumours and reports?
