Where has the unread posts, option gone?

Any why have I got my profile and stuff at the top of every page?

I've no idea where that profile thing came from - it appeared earlier today and I thought I had killed it off but clearly it has a second life

The poll is timed to disappear at 9pm - that was me hitting the wrong button it was supposed to be 6pm.

Do the avatars need to be that big? They take up half the screen. Is there a way we can switch off viewing them?

Answering my question, yes, it seems you can switch off the avatars. Much better.
