New Manager

Cooper didn't have to deal with the fallout of relegation and the turnover of squad that Potter did. He had a much more stable set of circumstances and also had Ayew available to him.
Potter should have got us at least a play off spot with the squad at his disposal. He had a 20 goal season striker (Mcburnie) and Dan James in the side. His biggest fault was he kept picking Nordfeldt in goal.

Potter needed a second season for us to really judge him. The counter argument to having McBurnie and James is the huge amount of turnover the squad went through after relegation would have been difficult for any manager to deal with. On the other hand, the signings we made while he was here were pretty awful with the exception of Celina.

Of course he didn't get that second season because a PL team poached him and that went pretty well for them. No-one from the PL wanted Cooper despite two playoff place finishes.

It was McBurnie and James’ first season playing 1st team football.

I fully believe it Potter had another season and Ayew in the squad we would be pissed the league.

I agree.
James was extremely raw and only flourished after Christmas. He paid huge tribute to Potter when he left for overseeing his development that season.

We may have done a lot better if he hadn't kept picking that useless clown between the sticks, Nordfeldt.

Just drove past Russell Martin just after the Llansamlet entrance to the M4, custom plate BMW with RM on it.

Potter did disappear up his own arse on the odd occasion by playing players out of position and trying weird formations, but on the whole he did a superb stabilising job after relegation, and if we'd had Ayew that year we'd have been in the playoffs no question.

He did a brilliant job at Brighton, and if anyone's judging him on his spell at basket case Chelsea then you've only got to look at what's happened there since to know it had very little to do with him.

I think he'll do a fine job for West Ham. He'll get more time there than he did at Chelsea.

Good coach, we were lucky to have him for a year, shame he didn't hang about longer, but you can't blame him for going. He'd have been insane not to.
