O’Brien

Great news if true, O'Brien has been great for us and is clearly a top-end midfielder at Championship level.

If it is true, I can't see any other midfield signings unless we lost Franco. Those hoping to see Fulton replaced will likely be disappointed.

Would imagine the majority of remaining transfer budget will now go on 2 CB's (if Darling is leaving as expected).
If Franco goes it will be for 15 million plus at least. Then we go to the European market and pick another Franco up plus a CB or two if Darling really is going.

sorry if i've missed something as i haven't read the full thread.

why would LOB be allowed to come here in his last year at forest? they'll want a sale. No chance of this happening despite him being happy and enjoying his football, the summer is long, it's got Leicester all over it for me.

Money usually talks in football and I see very little chance of us being able to match the wage structure of Leicester, or most of the possible Championship options for that matter. For this reason I share the same view that it’s a very long shot. Stranger things have happened though.

Only reporting from the words of Sheehan, Josh Key and O’Brien himself.

But yes, money talks.

Just asked my butty about this and was told that Forest preferred option is that they want to sell him, which is what they are aiming to do. So unless they change their mind or someone doesn’t offer to buy him, then I can’t see it happening.

By the time next season comes around, he won't have played for Forest for two and a half years.

I am not sure he is going to attract a big transfer fee. Most championship clubs won't pay a big fee plus his wages to sign him permanently. His loan moves to the Championship have been Middlesborough and us so it hardly looks like the rich relegated clubs have been going all out for him. If he was going to be that sought after, where were Leeds/Burnley/Sheffield United etc. in January?

I don't think it is overly strange that Forest are happy just getting him off the wages for the rest of his contract and likely receiving a loan fee for him. Particularly if LOB himself has ruled out leaving permanently as he may fancy getting his full wages for a year (plus whatever bonuses he may be entitled to) before joining someone on a free next year and receiving a hefty signing on fee to boot.

Not saying it'll happen but I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that he does sign on loan again.

They probably value him at around 5M, maybe we’ve offered 1.5-2M to loan him plus a higher percentage of wages, on top of what we payed to loan him in January, if the player wants the move and Forest get some fee in return then I don’t think it’s unlikely they’d loan him.

O'Brien holds the cards here surely?
Last 12 months of his contract and Forest will be looking to recoup some cash for him or even just get him off the wages to some level atleast.

He hasn't played a lot in the last few seasons so might be just wanting to play and be happy with his 27th birthday coming up soon and a newborn on the scene. He could easily just dog his heels in at Forest for the 12 months and take his wage.

Forest loan him to us for a decent loan fee and we pay a % of his wage is better than him just sitting tight at Forest doing naff all.

Let's hope it's true he is coming back but things can change quickly for sure.
