One of my earliest football memories is the 1982 World Cup

RIP Paolo

I was a toddler at the time, but have read and watched plenty about it since. One of the iconic World Cup performances, especially at a time when we didn't know all about players from other countries. To have just come back from a 2-year ban for match-fixing (which he always denied) and then to not score a goal in the first group stage, to scoring 6 goals in the quarter-final, semi-final and final is incredible.

1990 is the year for my earliest football memories. Those incredible FA Cup semi-finals between Liverpool and Crystal Palace, then Man United and Oldham, followed by a brilliant final between Man United and Crystal Palace. Then the World Cup in Italy. I was already a football fan, but that year really cemented the obsession. I'll probably feel similarly to Phil when Toto Schillaci dies.

He dominated that world cup and made a chip shop in the hafod very happy

RIP

I've never forgiven him for Brazil 82, what a great team they were, Brazil 82 that is.
