We'll settle for about £8m. Our valuations as we've seen in the past don't matter it's what we can get to keep solvent.

If we sell for £8m, winter should be sacked on spot.

If we sell for £8m I know a few places in Penllergaer woods where they will never find the body.

In all seriousness though and back on topic we should have offered him improved terms back in October or so when it was obvious that we had a real gem, while our bargaining position with 2 years left is pretty strong it would have been a damn sight stronger if he had 3 years left to run considering that teams put off by the asking price wouldn't want to risk sitting on their hands if he has another strong season and the demand for him goes up even higher.

Right now we are in the position where if teams do not come in for him and we fail to go up he will have only one year left on his deal and the ability to demand a proper fee diminishes greatly especially if we fail to go up next season.

I'm no expert but surely we shouldn't be making things like that public?.

Exactly, we really not good at this game, we playing our hand far to early, he'll go for between 5 and 8 million, I reckon which is ridiculous, we gor previous for this sort of thing though ffs :x

He won't be the one who decides. That'll be elsewhere.

Edit - If he goes for less than £10m then we may well see other sales.

Yeah I suppose, Dan James bring one example with that disaster deal to Leeds which Jenkins to his credit stopped.

If you believe that story of course. I have my doubts.

Lol.

There have been less public sales at DFS.

The club couldn’t make it more obvious.

The issue is whether any of them have the competence to extract an appropriate value.

With Covid past us now we should be looking at market prices from 19/20 summer period. Based on his stats which compare very well with Oli Watkins (26 goals 3 assists for Oli vs 24 goals 6 assists for Joel) at similar ages we should be looking for between £25m and £30m for him.

Of course the question is if we have the brass and the competence to demand that and stick to it.

Letting clubs know he’s not willing to enter contract negotiations wouldn’t help getting the appropriate value though. Weakens our bargaining position considerably imo.

I know it's a consequence of the sad state we're in, but it all seems a bit self defeating. Let's bring on an exciting new talent, so we can sell him to a Premier League club, and bring in a few million so we can.....buy and bring on an exciting new talent, so we can sell him to a Premier League club and bring in a few million, so we can blah, blah, blah.

Where's the feckin AMBITION? how are we ever going to get promoted again if we keep selling our best players to survive? Why are the feckin useless Yank owners hanging around here if they don't want the club to grow, succeed, reach the heights and eventually bring them in a massive payday?

Spot on Pego. We have gone backwards over last 10 years under that model.

His agent ( his father? ) doesn't give a monkeys about that only his fee for himself and his wage for Piroe is on his mind

They won’t have forgotten how he was publicly humiliated by Martin last year.

As previously stated where is the ambition from the club ??

I'm not on about our bargaining position with them, I'm on about other clubs. He's off regardless so we need to get as much as we possibly can. Making public there is no interest his side on entering talks with us doesn't help that cause, imo anyway.

In fairness this time round, the club have said they are open to talks with the player, the player's agent has knocked us back.
If we had made a derisory offer, no offer or were selling against the player's will, then I can understand blaming the club.
In this instance, seems to me the player is the one pushing for the move, so club has a choice to either cash in or take a chance on getting more for another good or better season and possible promotion.
Also an unsettled player in the ranks isn't the best ?

The time to try to improve his deal was when his stock was rising but before he became a hot commodity.
It was obvious to most in September/October that we had a real gem on our hands and we should have tried to offer him an improved deal with improved wages then.
