Play-offs

Serious question -

Presumably we've all watched quite a bit of Sunderland this season, right?

Can you name one player they've currently got who strikes you as having Premier League quality? I can't.

And I don't think I could say that for any play off winner in recent memory.
Mungle and Mayenda I think could have the quality, both dribble with pace and can be direct goal threats.

The question is if the team can have the confidence to keep giving them the ball and loading up the box for them after getting rogered week in week out for three months.

I think their keeper Patterson is also another with high potential and the Premier League will either make him or break him

I'm not talking about potential or "could be's" though, I'm talking about looking at their XI today and saying there's a player who you can hang your hat on in the Premier League.

There isn't one. Not a single one.

And it's not often you can say that about a team getting promoted from the Championship.

I would have said the same about our side that got promoted against Reading to be fair

That alone damns both those teams.

I used to think he was little but a skull on a stick but watched him closely in one of the games where we battered them here (think it was the season Downes was here) and he actually improved my opinion of him. As targetmen go he's decent IMO. Not a great player, but not a bad one either.

I agree, he has better control and movement than people give him credit for
Like Peter Crouch he gets unfairly shoehorned into "big man good at headers and nothing else" which I think was quite disrespectful to both. If I am feeling generous Andy Carroll on a good day also fell into that category

The difference being Andy Carroll is a knob
Crouch and Moore are by all accounts seemingly decent blokes

I genuinely can't believe Sunderland have been promoted. Good luck to them but nailed on for a weekly bumming. Beaten us twice in last 10 meetings.

Just go's to show, it's all to play for. Damn our mid season capitulation.

There were two capitulations
That goalless October being one as well as those 7 losses in 9 before we finally cut Williams loose

We can regret it all we like, now we can only turn our attentions to doing what we can to make sure we are one of the six best teams in 25/26

So far, the most one-sided playoff final since we played Brentford in 2021 and offered absolutely nothing.
We met some Brentford lads on the tube and ended up going on the beer with them before the game. They were genuinely terrified of the Swans.
Can remember saying “lads, I’ll be shocked if we have a shot on goal”.
That game and the Barnsley semi were truly awful.

Does it make next season's play off hopes even more difficult?
Yes. Sheff with 92 points this season pretty much guarantees they will take 1 of the top 6 spots next season. The same could not be said of Sunderland with players leaving.

That's 1 spot that would have been open to all the rest of the teams incl us

Yeah, but at least that season and in the three play off matches we showed we had high levels of quality. Sunderland have been rubbish for most of the second half of the season, all of the run in and all three play off games.

That is pretty much how I see it. At the end of this season we were a better side than Sunderland which means absolutely nothing but it would have next season if they lost today.

Thug Utd created next to nothing, for all their ‘dominance’. Always prone to a smash and grab then. Couldn’t see it coming but as a certain B.Clough (I think) said. It only takes a second to score a goal.

Sunderland fans should enjoy it now, they’ll be rogered senseless next year.
I would have ut the blades down to win, as they have more fire power, somehow it didnt click in today , Brewsters gone downhill since leaving us. both poor sides though.

Agreed, I genuinely feel for Moore though

Cardiff connections aside he was one of the best players on the pitch, a single misplaced pass in the 93rd minute cost his team everything though
if you notice, they didnt rally mark him all game, stood off him much of the time.
