It's just nuts.

Managers demanding their players to automatically play out from the back on restart is just bollox...over and over again teams get caught out, and every time a goal is scored against this dumb tactic I have a little titter..

Trends.

If the early ball from the back is on then why not play it. If not, to do it as a matter of course is bonkers.

Football these days is boring. Loads of clipboard managers (copyright Monny) all trying to Ape Guardiola by trying to play the same way.

I honestly don't understand the two centre halves inside the box for a goal kick, especially if one of them is just to pass it to the keeper directly from the goal kick.

For me the centre halves are better off splitting on the edge of the box similar to the old rules where no one could touch the ball inside the box from a goal kick. If the attackers press on them then they can pass it across to the other centre half or back to the keeper to clear it long, if they don't then they can turn on the ball.

If attackers are camping on the centre halves then the keeper can play the goal kick long anyway.

Its a billion times better than a short pass to the keeper and then the defenders are too close / playing attackers onside if the clearance is poor and the ball is lost in a dangerous area.

It's meant to draw the strikers into the box, allowing the keeper/defenders to pass the ball into midfield and bypass the first line of the opponent's press.

Unfortunately, we don't seem able to do the second part so it usually results in Vigouroux just kicking it long and losing possession anyway

Yes but if you get it wrong (which we inevitably do) you have a defender on the 6 yard line playing two strikers onside. All it takes is someone with quick control who can pick a pass and we are in a heap of trouble

The principle of it is fine - you do it to tease out the opposition to try and create space further up the pitch. It makes sense.

What is insane is the number of managers trying to implement it with players who just aren't comfortable doing it - like our very own carthorse Cabango. Wood was also terrible at it when he was here.

The teams in the Prem on the whole do it ok, but the number of comedy goals going in in the football league every week is just ridiculous. I will never understand how it's become acceptable to basically cost yourself between 5-10 goals a season. Mental.

I'm agreeing with you, it's completely pointless us doing it. Vigouroux may as well just take a long goal kick in the first place because at least that removes the risk of giving away a stupid goal in our own box and it's what he ends up doing most of the time anyway

Because on the one occasion it does work, the social media team can clip it and post "The Swansea Way", which will invariably excite a large portion of our fanbase.
I'd love to see a compilation video of all the other times we've done it and what the outcomes were

Remember that cringy worthy post before the Blackburn game with Wuss proudly boasting that keeping the ball will wear the opposition out.

Think we lost three nil that day.

Didn't Blackburn respond with a cheeky response on social media about "the process" after that game?

Playing out from the back is all very well if the opposition are crap and you have the skill set to pull it off; unfortunately, we do not at present.

The way we did it under Rodgers was simple enough and was obviously effective as it got us promoted AND kept us up in our first season.

Two centre halves splitting to the edges of the box, CDM dropping into the split to offer a third option and the full backs up near the halfway line. Five out balls that any goalkeeper with respectable distribution can pull off (and Vigouroux is capable of that)
