Playoff Structure Change

It’s a no from me. Not a fan of the idea of the 8th best team fluking a few results at the end of the season and ending up as the whipping boys of the

Think that's still pretty common across Europe (including Germany of the 'big' leagues)

Our first ever promotion in the playoffs involved a team from the league above - some of my first Swans memories are those home playoff matches against Rotherham and Torquay then listening to the away legs on the radio.

Trust me that away leg at Torquay was better listened to on the radio - never been so drenched and freezing in my life! If we had lost it would have been possibly the most miserable day of my life

Why not knock them on the head and just have 3 autos?
I’m not advocating a return to three up and three down, I consider the current scheme to be acceptable. For those that want to open it up, I ask where you want it to stop?

So a sixth place team is rightfully there, but a seventh placed team has no business to be?
I wouldn’t hate a points quota - you only get into the playoffs if you finish in the top 6 and within 10 points of the team in third. If you finish miles away like Bristol City did last season then you’re out and the team you would have played gets a bye.

What’s the objection to teams finishing third to eighth going in to a play off format?

1. I think the current balance between a 46 game season and a little bit of end of season drama is correct.
2. We already regularly see automatically promoted teams struggle in the Premier League.
3. It rewards mediocrity. Millwall finished 8th last year, with 24 less points and 10 less wins than the 3rd place team. Fluking two or three games should not outweigh this gap.
4. The 66 points of Millwall was only 17 more than the team which got relegated.
5. There is a fair chance that the 8th place team is less financially stable than the clubs above them. This may lead to spending beyond reach in the summer, only to do a Luton and bomb. It’s hard to recover from there.

Do you want to stop at 8 or are you happy to go to 10?

Im not arsed, sixth place, eight place, whatever. As long as everyone knows what the arrangement is.

I don’t buy the nonsense about teams with less points will struggle when they go up. You’ve only got to look at Sunderland this year.

People don’t like change, especially as they get older. There was uproar about the proposed new champions league format, turns out it’s brilliant. There was derision about the nations league being introduced, again it’s been brilliant.

What difference does it make to you personally, or our club, if this new system is introduced. Other than “you don’t like it”.

Happy to stop at eight.

Opens up the opportunity for more teams to get promoted with the potential of breaking the cycle of the same clubs such as Burnley getting promoted and relegated.

Not exploring these opportunities could be perceived as a little short sighted.

I'm all for it, opens the league up and hopefully breaks the stranglehold of the same teams getting promoted and relegated.

Clubs like Sunderland and to a certain degree Bournemouth and Brighton prove that if you get your recruitment correct there is no reason why you can't stay in the premier league.

Teams like Burnley and Norwich almost accept they aren't going to stay up.
