Yes.Went up in my dad's Austin A95 Westminster and collected a car full of valley chaps.

He took a milkcrate for me to stand on and the game flew by. We got tickets last minute with Len Pitson.

At half time,I was asking and wondering as to how we got FA Cup final tickets so certain were we it was our year.

Tony Singleton is a name that still haunt me,as does Villa Park or the Holte End

My late father was at the game. I've still got the ticket stub in the draw.

Yeah. My late father was there as well. He also did all the rounds before that.
I was 11 FFS! I should have gone but I was too much of a wuss in those days. No interest in sport until I was about 15. Too late to play in the schools teams then. One of my big regrets.
I live the times I missed through my grandsons now who love the game. Aged 9 and 5 :)

I remember that Semi-Final day really well, even though I was only 7 at the time. A day seared into my memory for...well, until now.

My father and grandfather started taking me to the Vetch aged 5 in 1962, so by 7, I was a Swans fan through and through. (Still got my lovingly white painted 'rattle' with Up the Swans written on it, up the shed.)

Sadly, my mother decided I was too young to travel up to the match with the 'beer swillin men' of the family and so, I was forced to go shopping with my mother and gran in Swansea instead...joy of bloody joys eh?

I was like a demented loon as kick-off approached, getting on my mothers nerves (bit like now I suppose) and at the time, the only way to find out the scores was to listen to the radio. Well we were walking along the Kingsway, passed the Dewhurst butchers shop and one of the guys behind the counter was listening to the match. I ran into the shop begging him to tell me we were winning..."Swans winning 1-0 he said Jimmy Mac had scored!" I went crazy on the Kingsway, my mother remained unimpressed. I didn't care...we were going to Wembley surely?

The women, to distract me and shut me up, then dragged me into the Plaza Cinema on the Kingsway to watch 'Snow White.' My team were fighting for a place on the hallowed turf, and what was I doing? Watching a bunch of bloody dwarves! I was 'Grumpy,' as I certainly wasn't 'Happy.'

Then devastation...right at the end of the film, they put a sign up on screen saying 'Preston North End 2 v Swansea Town 1.' I was crushed, that was my first ever memory of being majorly upset at a Swans result (There have been a number of those since mind you). I was inconsolable, my mother told me I was an ungrateful little sod for not enjoying the film, threatening to never take me to the cinema again!

I was pleased to hear that, I was scarred for life by that day, dwarves, hi ho's and cinemas have always represented a psychological downer for me ever since!

As a very young lad, losing to PNE that day really hurt, a hurt I couldn't shake. So, to be there amongst the 10,000 throng of Swans fans in Deepdale and stuff the buggers and relegate them on 2nd May 1981, as we won our way into the old First Division was divine retribution...revenge personified!

Not that I hold any grudges against Preston mind.

Enjoyed reading that, lovely story mate 👍

My late father went up with my uncle (Vetchonian's father). He always said the game would not have been played due to the weather and state of the pitch, if it hadn't been the FA cup semi final.

He always felt he would never see the Swans at Wembley. I'm chuffed to say he lived to see us at all our Wembley appearances and I was lucky enough to enjoy every one with him. He died 3 years ago yesterday.

Great story👍

Btw my wife and in laws are northenders🤣

I was there with my Father and we travelled up by car with 3 other Swans fans. We were delayed getting to the game and just made the kick off. The reason for the delay was there was a tragic accident close to the ground where a young woman was knocked over and killed. We were just a few vehicles away from the incident.
The game should never have been played, the weather and the pitch were atrocious.
A bad day all round.
