Always liked history, read a few books but my interest was always a level below that of an enthusiast

Have been demolishing 'The Rest is History' podcast for the last couple of months, yes it's made by Goalhanger podcasts which is owned by Gary Lineker, but if you can get past that and pick a period/topic you are curious about then the hours just fly by.

Each episode is a narration/discussion of the relevant timeline from historians Tom Holland and Dominic Westbrook, not aimed at academics by any means and the humour level is spot on.

Highly recommend their series on the build up to WW1, outstanding (and tragic)

I’ve listened to a few of those, about the Wilson/Heath/Thatcher shenanigans and the miners in the 70s. Very good.

Yeah I really enjoyed it, despite having read the book and watched a few documentaries on it. One of the twins from Twin Town narrates it.

A couple of good ones from BBC Sounds. Uncanny - another supernatural one, some episodes are spooky as hell, and The Coming Storm - about QAnon and Trump, the US is nuts.

These are worth a listen if you enjoy fiction. I've listened to most and have thoroughly enjoyed.

Really enjoyed this, about two South African contractors caught up in the Islamic insurgency in Mozambique. Quite harrowing, but an excellent listen.

It's quite graphic in parts but well worth a listen

I'm fan so biased, but this is great. First series narrated by Maxine Peak and ably replaced by Elizabeth Alker for the second. It's a good social record of 1976-1990 too.
