I've got a pile of old letters I'd like to turn into a book. I've done a quick search and come across lulu.com which could be utilised.

I'm wondering does planetswans have any experts in this field that could help?

Congratulations on doing this, it's a good way of preserving family history for future generations (assuming that this will be a very small number of copies).Try posting this query on genealogical forums where they are more likely to have done this. Otherwise, take a look under self-publishing in the "Writers and Artists Yearbook" at your local library (or WH Smiths) to see if there are any suitable companies.

How many and how long?

Plenty of printers can do this with digital tech now-plenty online. Have done a few small work-related books (40 pages). I also know someone who published a cookery book (e book and print) via Amazon. It's not that cheap, but great to get a boxful of your book.

Used these for a 'colouring book' -only 24 pages but with colour covers. This was £1100 for 4,000 copies. It was done with an illustrator who set everything up in terms of getting the right format etc.

I used a local digital printers to produce a 'pocket guide to poultry disease' which I did simply in Word then covered to a PDF.

This was not as good, but you can pay more for formatting and typesetting etc,

There should be similar set ups in the South Wales area too.


As I was ill and then the pandemic, I still have about 3,000 colouring books in my office.
