What you reckon then, pretentious knobheads, or something nice to have?

Seems every Tom, Dick and Harry has one these days.

Waste of money unless you have a sought-after one you can sell for a large sum but otherwise a pile of wank.

Whatever floats your boat, if you've got the cash to burn happy days.🚘👍

Yep. Used to get annoyed because they seem a waste of money to me, but as I've got older I've realised that many people would feel the same way about what I choose to spend my hard-earned on, so live and let live.

My wife has one for 2 reasons:

1 Even though she’s a clever girl she would otherwise never remember the number plate
2. I once bought her a new car for her birthday and, unfortunately, the registration ended in “SHT” which took the gloss off the well intentioned gift. Quickly put a private plate on it.

When I was working in Stockport 20-odd years ago I'd regularly see a beaten up old blue car - might've been a marina or Mk II escort - registration JUL1E. I wonder if they ever cashed it in?

I've no objection to having one, but it'd have to be a corker. SB1 would do.

Reminds me of a classic Viz magazine joke in the letters section which, if memory serves correctly went something like this

"Dear Viz

Why waste money on expensive personalised number plates? Just change your name by Deed Poll to match your existing number plate.

Yours

Mr KTH 471Y"

A good relatively cheap birthday present after 30 years of marriage when you’ve run out of things to buy. £250 and she loved it.

Otherwise just a silly ego thing for people with too much money. As indeed are most cars. So yeah, I’m thinking of it on my next Aston…
