Putting Petrol in a Diesel car

An old lady just put 7 litres of petrol in her diesel car in Morrisons before she realised.
If she’d filled it right up with diesel would it have been ok?

Nobody knew what to do.

She needs a push to move the car. If she tries to start the engine she’ll probably bugger it. Call the AA or a specialist company to drain the fuel system.

Absolutely no starting of the car. She might have got away with a little contamination thirty years ago, but not with today’s technology. At best she will need a complete system purge, change of filters, fuel lines flushed.

The wife of a well known poster once did it. He might check in later and tell us about it.

Get it drained and flushed, then refill with petrol. RAC charged me £200 in 2016. Depends on the car, but wife had filled it with petrol, driven it 30 miles before it failed ('I heard a funny noise for a long time and then it died') and it was perfectly fine for 4 years after the RAC did their thing. Better if she doesn't drive it! It can f**k up all the seals and wreck the engine. We were lucky, apparently that Kia diesel was bulletproof...RAC man said 'lucky it wasn't some overengineered German shit'

Obviously I meant refill with diesel. Serves me right for calling Mrs M stupid.

There is a guy based in port Tennant who has a business for getting wrong fuel out. Basically don't start engine to be safe.

I did it twice. Both diesel engines. First time I put a few litres of petrol in then completely filled the engine with diesel and i got away with it. Second time I pretty much filled the tank and realised when I thought it was cheaper than normal. Called the AA and they drained it.

The guy in Swansea is cheaper for sure - also has a garage for repairs.
