Reading play off final side

Dobbie scored goals for fun in the Championship though mind, Franco has potential, but is he the goal scoring threat SD was?
Not in a million years

It's an interesting debate.

It probably shouldn't go unnoted that Rodgers preferred starting midfield that season was Britton, Gower and Orlandi. None of whom could seriously be considered as creative attacking types.

We were a much, much more effective team, and a helluva lot more fun to watch once he decided to play Dobbie in that attacking #10 role. An early example of player ability exceeding the statistical analysis and preferred setup.

Monk over Darling for me, Monk turned out to be a cunt but held his own in the Premier League against some decent centre forwards, Darling will never get to play at that standard imho...

Admittedly Dobbie had a hot streak towards the end of the promotion season, but he also had quite a few bit part roles.

He did struggle with his fitness in fairness but the same might be said of Franco.
Saying that I get the feeling that Williams is handling Franco with kids gloves regarding minutes on the grass...

Who, if anyone, would you choose from the present day squad over this?...

De Vries, Rangel, Monk, Williams, Tate, Dyer, Britton, Dobbie, Allen, Sinclair, Borini. Subs: Ma-Kalambay, Pratley, Beattie, Serran, Moore, Gower, Richards.
There's not a player in todays squad that would get in that squad, not one.

Picking Darling over Monk is allowing judgement to be clouded by perceptions of what may have happened later. Mental. On a football level anyone who’d pick Darling over peak Garry Monk probably shouldn’t be allowed out unaccompanied. Monk played dozens of Premier League games in a moderately good Premier League team. Darling has probably played roughly the same amount of second tier games in a bang average to poor Championship team. Have a word with yourselves mun.

How much would we pay for a Monk and Williams combo now?
Would get us into the playoffs in this shyt division all day long, even taking into account our other deficiencies... 👌

That team would embarrass our current lot. I probably wouldn't change a single player of that starting line up for any of the current squad, and that's with Tate playing out of position.

Absolutely.
I'd put that side up against anyone in this division nowadays and put money on us finishing top dogs end of the season.
Standards have dropped in the Championship never mind @SA1
