Depends what mindset you are working from.
You have to take the whole picture into context. We can't be comparing today's manager to one who had parachute payments and one who last summer had a ridiculous amount of money available to spend on players.

It's hardly double standards if you are taking common sense and reality into the whole scenario.

I might be wrong in all this but I like to think I am fair when judging and have an open mind on the situation especially the current one.
I am sure I will be corrected by someone if I am wrong 😁
I'd hardly call your judgement fair, blinkered, yes. Each to their own.

You don's agree that a likeable manager who comes across well to the fans seems to get away completely blameless with a certain section of our fanbase?

If this was Duff the reaction to recent performances would be completely different.

Also worth mentioning that Steve Cooper got us in to the play offs, twice with these owners.
Oh come on.

Steve Cooper had years 2 and 3 of parachute payments, plus he had the highest paid player in the division to call on, one whose true level was PL football. He had Conor Gallagher on loan down here, Morgan Gibbs White, Marc Guehi. Connor Roberts. Rhian Brewster. Victor Gyokeres!

Play offs was the bare minimum we should have expected. In fact there's an argument to say he sold us short.

All those players we had on loan were relatively unknown at the time, just looked what happened to them with the right coaching, he even managed to get a tune out of Ayew.

Whether you like Cooper or his brand of football he's a good manager, far better than any we have had since.

Not sure about the bit I've highlighted above. Apart from the 5 months here in the relegation season, Ayew has performed at a decent standard pretty much his entire career and was clearly good enough to be at a higher level during those 2 seasons. It would have been a concern if Cooper hadn't been able to integrate him successfully.

We should never have signed him back from West Ham, we absolute robbed them when they signed him in the first place. Never worth the wage we paid him.

Now that I will agree with in spades. Panicking and splashing out on Ayew and Bony was up there with the worst decisions made by Jenkins. It was made worse because it followed the summer window when he panicked and splashed out on Clucas to replace Gylfi.

Imagine how much better our chances of an instant return to the PL would have been if we hadn't hamstrung ourselves financially with those three ridiculous signings?

Their wages definitely hindered us and the signing of Clucas for the fee we paid is baffling.

Gonzo had a proper meltdown towards the end, his Midas touch vanished.

"Retaining the very best Captain and midfield maestro"

Don't do drugs, kids.

Some significant changes afoot which will look to build upon the excellent new foundations established post Winter/Martin:
  • Record spend in this league last term.
  • Top half net spend this term.
  • Cutting our cloth, massively.
  • Retaining the very best Captain and midfield maestro, delivering:
  • Top 2 - possession
  • Top 2 - carries in final 1/3rd
  • Top 6 - touches in final 1/3rd
Our manager is currently our weakest link. He needs to pull his socks up, and get the very best out of our talented assets in the final 1/3rd to kick on and deliver - selection, set-up, subs….. it so ain’t rocket science.

Sheez&Marge champing at the bit to kick us on……(with LT10 mentoring our front 1/3rd)

Williams is our only handicap right now.
“Record spend in this league last term”. Eh? We weren’t close to paying the most on transfers and we certainly won’t have been close to the top spenders overall, not with the budgets the parachute clubs had.

Yes, Record Spend.

I find it a bit odd that one of the Forum's most intelligent contributors is either unaware or has forgotten the Fact that our NEW owners broke our all time record spend in the league last year. And continued in that same vein with a healthy top half net spend this term: NEW owners, Phase 1.

Funded largely by next level investment from our NEW investors who are actively engaged in transforming our business from top to bottom, with the ambition of kicking us on to where we belong. Effectiveness and efficiency at the core, cutting our cloth appropriately. Expect another tranche of next level step change......😉

The focus should now be firmly on Williams to deliver. He has the platform. Sheez&Marge have sorted the midfield and defence. All eyes now on Williams to earn his crust and sort our front 1/3rd - no more psychoanalysis mumbo jumbo about how good he thinks he is. Just deliver, 'prompto'.

NEW owners Phase 2, imminent.........
