RUSS SPEAKS

I agree we don't want him but now that someone else does we may as well get as much money for him as possible.

It doesn't really matter what our fans would be saying - what matters is what the clubs want. And Southampton have clearly identified Martin as being the man for the job and given their season only ended 4 days ago and their manager was contracted until today, probably don't especially care whether he is confirmed today, tomorrow or in a fortnight.

At the end of the day, we are negotiating a big money deal with Southampton and they are negotiating a big money deal with Martin and a few others. There is probably also negotiations between us and Martin around his contract too. These things don't happen overnight.
It is always the case we should try to get as much as possible for any sale or manager.
The danger is they know the signs are we don't want him.
The reason for the difference in compo claim is from my understanding Prem or Championship club.
Depends I guess from how it is worded.
He will after all be managing in the Championship.
I hope your right and it's only a matter of waiting.

A confirmed relegated Premier League club

The problem with our owners - and I speak from first hand experience - is they always believe they hold the aces even when they have a hand full of fours

Fours, eh? We're in a better position than I feared. :D

The Club need to get it sorted, if the deal breaks down and Martin stays, the Club will probably find itself in a position where they have a disgruntled manager on their hands and possibly even end up putting him on gardening leave. Didn’t something similar happen with Cooper?

What a shambles

It's interesting that Talksport mentioned a compensation figure of £400k last week yet BBC say it's £1.25m.

It will all be the wording of contracts etc, but Southampton will have made contact ( I guess) when they were confirmed as relegated, so would be looking to appoint a manager for a championship season.

Let's just hope it's sorted soon, so we can get on with what's important, building for next season.

I live in hope :)

Dig in for the 1.75. Plenty of time to play hardball. Most players and coaches etc are on holiday

The club can’t afford to mess about too much, pre season will be starting in a month. If Martin goes, the club needs to get the new manager in and look at reshaping the squad. I’m mindful of the Siggy business a few years ago, there was the saga with Everton and at the end of that season the club was relegated. Haggling over a few million wasted time and potentially cost the club it’s PL place.

We got relegated because we spent £70m on bad players, not because the Gylfi sale took a month longer than it might have.

They’ll up not paying and we’ll end up stuck with a manager who doesn’t want to be here. Lovely.

… and the reason we ended up paying over the odds for ‘bad players’ is that time ran out on us & we bought was available. A month earlier the choice would have been quite a bit broader
